Time To Recognize Who We Are; Reunite America

Hello Saudade,

There will probably be a blue wave, although not a legitimate one.

I don't see how that could happen but I would like to see it happen.

How can voters be pleased with a kneecapped presidency that can't accomplish anything?

How is that going to bring voters out in sufficient numbers after Democrats have been on the defensive for 2 years with little to show for their time?

I see Democrats in a difficult position. They have not been able to gather the support of the non college educated white males. The Republicans have that demographic, and Trump charges up their enthusiasm. Trump can keep on sending tweets after he is out of office. Trump could file papers to run in 2024, start holding rallies, fire them all up and keep them angry, just waiting to vote in 2022.

Trump, the art of the come-back.

America really needs to prosecute him and put him away.

Plenty of people vote split ticket. Not as many do that as in the past, but plenty of people don't want one party control. Moderation is something that many people still prefer.

That being said, I realize that Trump's populism isn't dead, but the system needed to elect people seems to be.

The election is over.

Our nation has been torn apart by very different ideas. Not only do Americans disagree on what our government should do, we don't even agree on basic facts. That is because we now get our information from two entirely different streams of non-overlapping sources.

We are really two nations sharing one government and one land.

If that is not difficult enough, we have a lot of forces seeking to keep this division as polarized as possible, making great profits from whipping up hatred, and dehumanizing 'the other side.'

There is no pretending that we only disagree during election season and then go back to 'normal life' afterwards any more. It's like we are in constant election season and it never ends.

The best thing we can do is recognize that our fellow Americans do not share our beliefs but they do share our country.

We know that we have to live together.

The best thing we can do is to remember that we must share this country, and resign ourselves to accepting that it takes all of us to make America what it is.

Bitter hatred and disrespect is not helpful at all, accomplishes nothing, makes us dysfunctional.

We have big enough differences without adding hatred on top of everything else. We have to try to rise above that.

Our challenge is rediscover respect for one another.

If America is really great then part of that has to mean we respect all Americans. A hateful and bitterly divided nation cannot be great.

David Brooks:

"Well, if ever there was a campaign that was going to be a blowout, I thought this was it. I thought we had an unpopular president that people were ready to get rid of. I expected a large margin. And I was wrong. It's a 2.8 percentage margin nationally.

And so I think what we have learned is that we a very evenly divided nation, two groups of people in non-overlapping universes. For a time, it seemed — and I think people in both camps thought, well, the people on my team could eventually crush the people on the other team, and my team will get to rule.

I think we now have to face reality. That's just never going to happen. The other side is never going to go away. And we have got to find a way to live with each other.

And so, to me, that's the biggest takeaway of where we are right now."

That's the tone of this excellent discussion of where we stand as a nation:

Listen up Flyover America:

Your anger at the betrayal from the Elites is about to go off the charts.

Now you really get fucked up the ass hard.

I am a Democrat and I am reaching out to my fellow Republican Americans, appealing to you to share mutual respect.
.
I'm no republican.

1. You always resort to violence

Polite discussion in State politics is an illusion. At the end of this discussion, it really doesn’t matter who’s right or who’s wrong, the person with the superior numbers is going to force their bad ideas on everybody else at gun point. Just imagine doing this in reverse, where you start with a threat instead of ending with it. Nobody would try to be polite about their disagreement under those circumstances.

Since we know we have inferior numbers, and the minority always gets screwed and threatened by democracy, this is exactly what this discussion looks like to us. It begins and ends with the threat of violence, so the fact that we don’t shoot you in the face really speaks volumes to our civility.

You give us absolutely no option for escaping this violence. We are forced to choose between the violence of you, or the violence of someone else. You tell us “Love it or leave it!” or “Move to Somalia!” like I don’t have any right to be left in peace in my own home. The fact of the matter is, if you give us a choice of violence or violence, eventually we’re going to give some violence back to you, and making fun of you on twitter will become the least of your concerns.

Hello votebiden,

I'm sorry they have to be disappointed. Everyone can't always get what they want. I believe the new policies will have their better interest at heart. And I do not believe the suburbs are going to deteriorate into chaos. It's time to bring honesty back to the White House.

That honesty certainly isn't coming from you or from the Democrats.

Hello and welcome War=Peace,

Please take a moment to read my Personal Ignore Policy PIP: I like civil discourse. I will give you all the respect in the world if you respect me. Mouth off to me, or express overt racism, you will be PERMANENTLY Ignore Listed. Zero tolerance. No exceptions. I'll never read a word you write, even if quoted by another, nor respond to you, nor participate in your threads. ... Ignore the shallow. Cherish the thoughtful. Long Live Civil Discourse, Mutual Respect, and Good Debate! ps: Feel free to adopt my PIP. It works well.

I hope that's agreeable to you. If so then may we have plenty of stirring discussions. If not then we won't be talking long.

I've already made the call. I don't believe in rubbing anything in anyone's face. And besides. It was not a resounding victory. It was a squeaker. If Democrats try to ignore or discount what Republicans are saying then they just fan the fires of division and guarantee stagnation. Democrats have to understand there won't be any sweeping new one-sided legislation. The only way forward for America is down to this: We either work together or nothing gets done. Democrats, as the majority Party, need to recognize this for the good of America.

Argument of the stick fallacy. Denial of history. Assumption of victory fallacy. Patronizing.

Hello War=Peace,

Everyone is entitled to their own view. I hope the Democrats of 2021 can rise above your perception. I would ask that you give them a fair chance and an open slate to prove themselves.

Democrats have already proven themselves. They lie. They deceive. They form and support violent groups like the KKK, Antifa, BLM, and others. They steal elections. This is the worst I've seen it. You are bigots. You are racists. You want to destroy the Constitution of the United States and implement fascism by oligarchy.

No compromise. No unity.

Hello War=Peace,

An unfounded claim. President-elect Joe Biden said he wants to build a more prosperous America for the middle class. That doesn't sound like terrorism.

He can't do it by violent mobs in the streets. He can't do it by locking up and censoring dissidents. He can't do it by shutting down the economy. He can't do it by destroying the Constitution and implementing fascism.

Democrats are indeed "small s" socialists Defending social security, medicare, and the public sector in general, ie, the concept of non-autocratic government, is the true meaning of socialism.

Using "socialism" in the cold war propaganda connotation is the act of very ignorant and intellectually inadequate people.
Two many Americans don't even know how to speak in language that means anything, but our First Amendment, which is needed for other reasons, prevents us from shutting them up.

Not being articulate and accurate in one's language is acceptable in America when it should be viewed as very unpatriotic and a result of inadequate commitment to education.

That's why I despise the populism that flourishes in Middle America.
Not respecting the intellectual elites is what's causing the downfall of the republic.
When the shit hits the fan, Joe Sixpack's opinion doesn't help very much.
It's one of the biggest reason why I viscerally hate Trumpanzees.
They diminish the quality of our lives, regardless of who is president..

Bigotry. Racism. Fuck you.

Biden will never unify the country, not because idiots call him a rapist, but rather because the country is far too polarized to be united by anybody.
Shooting for unity is a losing strategy, I will say that.

Trump is a scumbag of the lowest kind, but he represented scumbags very well.
He did whatever he could to help his side, or at least himself, win; he didn't waste time on unity.
If Biden doesn't learn that lesson, and I'm not sure that he has it in him, dumping him for Ms. Harris is indeed the right move.
She has the much larger balls of the two.

Democrats polarized it. They have only themselves to blame.

Goodbye War=Peace,

Hey, thanks for making my decision easy. Sometimes I anguish over the decision to cut it off with a poster. No such problem in your case. I hope you enjoyed yourself. That was your only chance to mouth off to me. That tells me loud and clear, serves notice. If I DON'T place you on Ignore then I am condoning disrespect, and asking for more.

Now, since you have mouthed off to me, and I will never read another thing you write, let me just take a moment to have the final say in our very short discussion.

Sounds like you might be making the mistake of conflating street violence with the Democratic party. The fact of the matter is that we often do not know who starts the violence. It always seems to happen late at night after peaceful protests in the day. Sometimes it is provocateurs from the right. Whoever it is, it does not represent the Democratic Party. That association is made by right wing hate peddlers, talking heads whose job it is to whip up emotion just to get attention and sell advertising without a care for the damage they are doing to the soul of the nation. They find one instance and try to claim without basis this is what the whole party is doing. That doesn't pass the smell test. It's cheap stereotyping. Don't fall for it.

America is stronger when we stand together. I believe Democrats, and the President-elect shares this view, should do their best to open the lines of communication with our fellow Americans. We know that America doesn't want all the things we've talked about doing. It wasn't a resounding victory for Democrats. We get the message. What we need to find is what we can agree on that needs to be done. Somehow we have got to move forward. It's time to open up the lines of civil discourse. We stand ready to talk with our friends on the right who can conduct a mutually respectful dialog.

I also understand that, due to the nature of chat boards, it sometimes becomes necessary to exclude some individuals who are only here to vent frustration, and are simply looking for a target upon which to focus hatred. That is sad to see tormented minds, but those of us who came here for an adult conversation are under no obligation to entertain trolls.

Have a good life, War=Peace. You won't be a part of mine. I hope all that venting eased some stress. Feel free to tear into me at will, now. Just know that I'll never read it, and you'll get no response. There is no point in responding. There are plenty of civil posters to provide more stirring conversation. Good bye.

You don't have the final say. You just won't know why War=Peace responds to one of your idiotic posts. You have removed yourself from the conversation. You can't stand anything but the kiddie pool. I think you have the longest ignore list in JPP.
