Reasons A U.S. Navy Aircraft Carrier Is One Of The Safest Places To Be In A War
This is more accurate. It is virtually impossible to sink an aircraft carrier. It would be difficult to really hit it hard.
There has always been the fear that either a new technology, or a mistake would allow an aircraft carrier to be hit hard. In the 1980's the fear was that Soviet submarines could take out aircraft carriers. Now the fear is either drones or small manned boats. It is hard to say whether any would work; the US Navy is certainly trying hard to keep them from working. A mistake, like taking an aircraft carrier too close to a coast, or letting another ship get too close to it, would also be a way to take out a carrier.
That would take out one aircraft carrier, but not two. After the first one was lost, the rest would be better protected.
And losing thousands of sailors to an obvious enemy would not make the USA surrender, it would make us go to total war.
