Because it normally takes 60 Senators to vote for closure, and the Democrats only have 50 Senators. Every Democrat could vote for it, and they will still need a trick to get it passed.

But one thing Biden is good at is working things out. I am not worried.

Anyone who thinks the GOP (who created the ridiculous filibuster mechanism where you only email the cloakroom to stop the business of the legislative branch, who summoned a fake "rule" to prevent Merrick Garland from reaching the SCOTUS while violating that same "rule" to seat Amy Barrett) isn't the party of "tricks" has not been paying attention to anything.

The 50 votes in favor are there, but the 60 votes for closure are more difficult. It might take a year or two, but I think even that is doable. It is such a strongly supported issue, I doubt Republicans can block it for long.
 
$15 an hour is a little over $30K per year at 40 hours per week. If Biden isn't willing to fight for that pittance, and it is a pittance, then fuck Biden and everyone who supports him.

Seriously, this is a national embarrassment.

It is a national disgrace that minimum wage is so low. It is $7.25 an hour, so if someone works 40 hours a week for 50 weeks, that is $14.5k. For tipped employees, it is $2.13, or about $4k a year. Tips are supposed to make up the difference, but sometimes do not.

Biden will fight to raise minimum wage, but it might take a year or two. Even then, it has to be done gradually, so will take a few more years. Unfortunately, it might be closer to a decade to get there.

I would say "fuck Biden" too, but the truth is there is no alternative. trump wanted to lower minimum wage, and many Republicans agreed with him.

The Regressive Left is not willing to reconsider either open borders or COVID martial law, what gives anyone the idea that they wont simply put the 15 min wage in a bill at the last moment and pass it? Honesty means nothing to them.

Democrats have always been serious about it in the past. It sometimes takes them a few years, but every Democratic President has increased the minimum wage. The last time a Republican raised minimum wage was 30 years ago, and Bush Senior was forced to do it against his will by Democrats.

It is going to be difficult to get a minimum wage increase by the Republicans in the Senate, but it will happen. Biden is good at this sort of stuff.

It really is not possible to amend a bill without anyone noticing. There is no way to lie about what is in a bill, so honesty is not a thing. But you are right, Democrats just need to find a bill that Republicans have to pass, and add this to it. It might not happen this year, but I reassure you that Biden can run on having raised minimum wage.

If they did not tax tips, then we could all be paid just by tips, and no one would have to pay taxes. That would be a bigger FU to the working class, because it would force them to beg to be paid.

I see no reason to incentive tip income above any other form of income. In fact, cash tips are often underreported, so are effectively taxed at a lower rate.
