Why Unregulated Capitalism Naturally Creates Poverty; And How To Fix It

PoliTalker

Diversity Makes Greatness
Capitalism thrives where there is an abundant work force with lots of competition for the given number of jobs, thus creating a market-driven low cost of labor by keeping wages low.

Where people can get fabulously rich by ripping off workers, the rip-off of workers will be prominent.

The structure of our economy does not have enough well-paying jobs for every potential worker. The unregulated free market produces this. The goal of employers it to pay as little as possible while still getting adequate performance of the worker to satisfy the business model.

If one worker betters himself or herself, and advances into a higher-paying job, somewhere, somebody else, somebody less qualified - loses out. Workers are in a constant competition with other workers to improve their qualifications. No wonder we have so many over-qualified workers!

Since there are not enough well-paying jobs for everyone, and workers are getting more and more education, this produces a situation where we see lots of over-qualified workers in less demanding less desirable jobs. Meanwhile, the education system is getting rich as student debt goes into orbit. This is ridiculous.

We, the people, do not have to accept that the rich and powerful will continue to exploit this inefficient form of capitalism which guarantees that there are not enough well-paying jobs for everyone who wants one. All we have to do is wise up to the big picture, and vote for more regulation of big corporate power, and vote for changing our government to end legalized corruption of big money in government:

Corruption Is Legal In America! Here's how to fix that...

Well fettered capitalism is an awesome tool to keep a rational nation free from corruption and moving forward

You don’t expect a tool to do the work without a hand controlling it

Capitalism is the tool

Regulations are the hand controlling the tool

If we properly regulated naturally inefficient capitalism we could make it more efficient, and make America more productive.

Capitalism is inefficient because it always seeks the most profitable ventures. Those things which become less profitable are abandoned to rot. Jobs are lost, equipment and facilities sit idle. At any time, there are thousands of industrial properties, buildings, equipment, and factories sitting idle. The jobs they once supported are no more. People laid off, many of them never to recover financially.

If capitalism were properly regulated, all this waste would never exist. Those business models which produce fantastic profits should be taxed more to support other job-creating business models that do not. If we do this, we save all those jobs.

But won't that taxation kill capitalism? No! Let the super-rich keep lots of riches! We certainly can't tax them so much that it's not worth while to do what they do. So we have to find a happy medium. We need to require them to pay into a truly vibrant economy. Require them to pay aggressive taxes on aggressive earnings. They can afford to do that and STILL get very rich.

Maybe some functions could simply be run by the government at no profit, run on the revenue of taxes from fabulously profitable ventures. This would provide jobs, provide income, get people off the dole, give them self-accomplishment, give them a sense of worth. This would reduce government expenditures for financial assistance programs.

And just think of all the functions which could be accomplished with such a massive work force and such a grand utilization of the productive capability of America! We could have more American-made products. Higher quality stuff. Not because they are cheaper to make, but because we created the jobs to make them by taxing imported junk products.

That's how we create a more vibrant economy AND create a policy that moves us away from such dependency on cheap foreign products. You know, it's gotten to be such an issue that it rivals the oil dependency of the 80's on Arab oil. Our economy would fall flat on it's face if a big dispute with China led to a sudden cut-off of cheap imports. We have to wean our way off of such dependency, and we can do it by properly regulating our capitalism.

This pandemic was a warning. Suddenly, we didn't have enough of a lot of things. Toilet Paper being the most public example, but PPE and ventilators right up there. We need more American productive capability. More than unregulated capitalism is furnishing.

Capitalism is a great engine of productivity.

Properly regulating capitalism is like putting a turbo on that engine. It's gonna make it run far more efficiently.

NOTHING you wrote shows unregulated capitalism "creates" poverty.

Hello Jack,

It's already regulated. Even China sees the value in competition.

No it isn't. It is highly inefficient. Capitalism provides vast wealth for a small proportion of people, OK sort-of wealth for many, and poverty for many more.

Meanwhile, lots of facilities and equipment sit idle at any time.

When has capitalism EVER produced enough well-paying jobs for everyone?

Capitalism doesn't do that. It guarantees that some will lose out.

It is not

Regulations have been decimated by republicans

Re regulating and actually policing capitalism is greatly needed

Proper taxing to offset the problems unfettered capitalism causes

And we will soar again

I would like to see CEOs to be paid a certain multiple of the least paid employee reinstated

Back when that was in place NO WEALTHY PERSON was willing to CEO their own company because it wasn’t worth it

They hired people for the job

That person rarely felt it was worth cheating the system and employees for the pay

It worked great to keep corporate abuse at bay

Capitalism in fact eats it’s self if it’s too poorly regulated

It is the power of a better idea if properly restrained and sealed from pouring all efforts into one pot

Unregulated it naturally turns into the emergence of a monopoly with EVERYTHING held in one persons hands

It’s how we got kings

WHICH IS WHY THE TOOL OF CAPITALISM NEEDS THE HAND OF REGULATIONS TO WORK PROPERLY

Hello cawacko,

When has any economic system in the history of the world done that?

Good question. If that is the definition of economic perfection, then that perfection has never been achieved. But certainly there are other industrialized nations which are closer to this perfection than the USA.

We need to do better.

And we can do better.

We can do a better job of regulating capitalism to make it work better for our populace.

Why should the people's desires get a practically nonexistent say in what our government does, but big money gets a far bigger voice?

Our Constitution doesn't say that's supposed to happen.

We have to make corruption illegal in America.

PRECISELY!

And that's the problem.

Our nation needs to have other goals besides letting the richest become richer.

Which is why we, the people, need to impose our concerns on that metric to get our needs met. Capitalism serves the richest most powerful capitalists. Everybody else has to deal with the side effects.
