Ungerrymandered: Michigan’s Maps, Independently Drawn, Set Up Fair Fight

The work of the new commission, which includes Democrats, Republicans and independents and was established through a citizen ballot initiative, stands in sharp contrast to the type of hyperpartisan extreme gerrymandering that has swept much of the country, exacerbating political polarization — and it may highlight a potential path to undoing such gerrymandering.

With lawmakers excluded from the mapmaking process, Michigan’s new districts will much more closely reflect the overall partisan makeup of the hotly contested battleground state.

Predictably, the (R)s are crying and gnashing their teeth over the new districts. Tough. Will they now file court challenges to contest the people's will? We voted this in.

It should be easy.

How many reps does Michigan get?

Give all but one to downtown Detrot and let the rest of the state have one.
People could save themselves a lot of trouble if they just asked me about these things.

Nope, it's a problem when anyone does it. Especially these days, when if you have a rep from the party you didn't vote for, he/she won't even respond to your letters or calls.
So now that the Republicans control the majority of state houses and can draw districts its a problem. Did you complain when Democrats were in charge and did the exact same thing?

but that would represent the will of the people, would it not ?

I suppose its all in how the algorhythm is coded as to whether or not its biased or not. simply including so-called Rs Ds Is is not guarantee.

and please note G.Soros made a terrific and cheap investment some years back in running favorable people for election positions. relatively small contributions made big differences.

In the better old days, when you had an issue or opinion to share, your rep would at least acknowledge that you pestered him/her, even if only with a form letter. Now they don't even bother. We have a bipartisan issue ongoing right now in our locale that I wrote to our (R) state rep about. The response? Crickets. The same was true of the (R) U.S. Rep we had back in St. Louis. She was so bad that when a small group of us with the local chapter of the Sierra Club showed up at her local office to talk with her about climate change (which she claims is a hoax), she called the cops on us. It was less than 25 ppl, most of us retired old geezers, with a couple of young moms with tots in tow. My then 15-yo g-daughter was with me. The cops made us going to the back parking lot where we could not be seen by the public passing by on the public road.

Murika!

Republicans won the state legislature. Choke on it.

Let's see the party breakdown of this alleged "non-partisan" UNELECTED "committee"....A BUNCH OF SLEAZOCRATS LYING ABOUT BEING "INDEPENDENTS".

This is nothing more than empowering UNELECTED "COMMISIONERS" , OVER THE VOTERS WHO ELECTED THE LEGISLATURE.

Move Over Soros: Meet the anti-Semites' New 'Dirty', 'All-powerful' Jewish Bogeyman

In Hungary, it's 'Soros.' In Austria, it's 'Silberstein.' They play the same role: the phantom Jew controlling a far larger, darker conspiracy

George Soros is a favorite target of the right — here's how that happened

The 86-year-old has become a Rorschach test. To the left, he's a rich guy openly supporting causes many liberals believe in. But to some on the far right, he's more sinister and nefarious, despite a lack of evidence. For two decades, some have seen Soros as a kind of puppet master secretly controlling the global economy and politics.

When you find yourself spitting cities into different political districts in the attempt to rig outcomes then you have made a wrong turn.

Detroit is carved up into several state Senate districts, with district boundary lines looping in Detroit neighborhoods with suburban communities, occasionally crossing county lines into Oakland and Macomb.
The map splits the city of Ann Arbor into two districts to improve partisan fairness scores.
The city of Grand Rapids is also split into two separate districts.
Lansing and East Lansing are now split into two separate state Senate seats.

Yet you and yours are on the wrong side of the demographic shift :)

How would a rep know who birdbrain voted for in the first place?

if the red states weren't gerrymandered to such an extent, we choose presidents democratically - by popular vote - and had strong voting rights laws.........Democrats would win every presidential by a 55-45 or 60-40 margin, hands down. Today's GOP would be a relic of the past

Some look up the Democrat Martin Frost old district in Texas. Then come and complain about the Republicans gerrymandering.
