Automotive publication MotorTrend named its 2024 car of the year on Thursday. It’s electric.
The 2024 Toyota Prius is the winner of MotorTrend’s golden calipers. “Toyota has fundamentally redefined the essence of a Prius with its new model,” said*MotorTrend*Group head of editorial, Ed Loh, in a news release. ‘In an automotive landscape grappling with a scarcity of affordable EV options, Toyota made the Prius hybrid the right car for this moment and rightfully earned*MotorTrend’s 2024 Car of the Year award in the process.”
 
With sporty exterior styling, a sleek silhouette, and up to an EPA-estimated 57 MPG combined, this new-generation Prius is made to move you. Available in LE, XLE, or Limited grades, it's packed with options and technology like the Toyota Audio Multimedia Audio system and comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. Powered by the fifth generation Toyota Hybrid System and a 2.0L engine, the has an output of 194 horsepower on the FWD drive model. And for models equipped with the available Electronic On-Demand AWD system, the output climbs to 196 HP.

Gravity announced new funding from Google Ventures, which will make it possible for the startup to scale up its high-speed charging.
Inside a parking garage in Manhattan, new EV chargers hanging on the wall are each around the size of a carry-on suitcase. But they’re capable of charging an EV with 200 miles of range in five minutes—and the system can also share power with the rest of the building.
Gravity, the startup behind the technology, announced today that it raised a new seed round of funding led by Google Ventures. Erik Norlander, a general partner at GV, said in a statement that the startup is doing something “fundamentally different” in EV charging, making it possible to scale up high-speed charging.

That comes from experience: I'm one of 50 journalists on the jury for the annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year awards.
The vehicles were chosen from a preliminary list of 52 eligible vehicles, which are reviewed throughout the year by the jurors, who then come together in October for a head-to-head comparison of their favorites in order to choose the top three in each category.
The finalists, five of which are EVs, were announced Thursday at the Los Angeles Auto Show.

Good God in heaven, I cannot think of anything more exciting than grabbing a few buddies, hopping into a Prius and heading to the gun range. Whooopeee!

There are people who enjoy cars and those that just consider them to be a way of getting fron point A to point B. You are clearly the latter. I would rather stick a white hot needle in my eye than own a free Prius.

It is electric only in the sense it has a battery and an electric motor. I uses a gasoline ICE engine to charge the battery and is for all intents an ICE vehicle with and electric drive train like say a diesel-electric locomotive.

So, the "car of the year" according to Motor Trash is an an ICE-electric vehicle that works because it has an ICE engine in it to keep it charged up.
 
As America collapses awards are almost always now awarded based upon fidelity to the agenda of the Regime.

The WOKE dont believe in standard, merit, or competence.

It's interesting to note that the top 10 states with the worst roads are all run by Democrats with one exception: Nebraska...

California tops the list for the worst of the worst when it comes to roads.

If it's woke to want to get away from fossil fuels that - even if it can't be proven that they contribute to climate change - still pollute our planet significantly...color me woke.

It's astounding to me that anyone could look at the damage done to earth since the Industrial Revolution, and think, 'yeah - this is sustainable.' Future generations will marvel at our carelessness and irresponsibility.

I remember when I was a big consumer of mags.

That has been over for a least a half dozen years, one by one they were taken over by the WOKE and turned to shit.

Interesting on the roads. CA just had two major freeway fires in underpasses occupied by the homeless. Week to repair I10 will displace hundreds of thousands of commuters for awhile.

I'd sell a free Prius too, but it wouldn't be worth enough to put a down payment on what I'd like to drive :)
