Oil companies hold leases on THOUSANDS of sites they could start working if they wanted to produce more oil.
Why should we produce more oil, simply to sell it to foreign nations?

A canard. There are only a limited number of drilling rigs, seismic survey units, etc., available and these are generally scheduled out for years in advance.
Why more oil? Because it's the best alternative to coal and we should strive at this point for sufficient domestic production to stop being importers and even become net exporters. Why export? Because that helps the US economy grow and expand rather than we buy from others.

Actually, Biden is releasing gasoline at the moment, not oil. He did release oil to keep the price down.
Biden is also selling strategic oil futures to assure drillers that the price will be high enough.
Off all this, Biden has made a profit, and kept production as high as possible.
Biden has us producing about as much oil as we can. We are already a net exporter, so your point is pointless.
Is being an exporter great for the economy? Have you heard of the resource curse? Exporting oil gets in the way of exporting things that are good for the economy, or at least better for the economy.
Right now, oil production is growing at the fastest rate the market considers reasonable. Biden's futures contracts are keeping investment as high as the market would allow. If we did force more public money in, private investors would flee, and we would just waste a lot of taxpayer money for no benefit.
How much could the US produce? About what it is producing now.
