One million barrels of gasoline have been released from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve in an effort to lower gas prices, the Department of Energy announced Tuesday.
According to the DOE, the barrels will be sold at an average price of $2.34 per gallon — days before the July 4 holiday, when more than 60 million people are expected to hit the roads this year. The move is unlikely to have a significant impact on gas prices, however, as the amount being sold only amounts to a fraction of gasoline used in a single day.
The United States consumed an average of nearly 9 million barrels of gasoline per day in 2023, according to the Energy Information Administration. That means the barrels that are being released would amount to approximately three hours’ worth of additional fuel for the country.

They don't have to. It is a relatively small amount used to lower prices. They are already replacing what they borrowed. We are now a net exporter of oil.
It is not unusual for presidents to use some of the SOR. When Trump took office in 2017 there was 695 million barrels. When he left office in 2021 there was 638 million.
Try doing some research from real news sources to support your information.
OPEC just announced it will increase production.
But they did not get rid of it which enabled us to have record production. Don't forget the horizontal drilling that increased production. That is a good reason to transition to other fuel sources since fracking has been causing problems with water supply and causing earthquakes.
If they don't have to, then why do it? The tiny amount does not lower prices, it lowers our security. DUH!
