President Trump instructs the US Treasury to stop minting new pennies

Yes, I'm familiar. How does that prove business and local governments won't be rounding up to the nearest nickel?

I'm not a business guy but I do know a thing or two about human behavior.

They tried that several years ago but people rarely used them. I have a roll in my desk...mainly as a makeshift weapon and for emergency money. LOL
I am saying STOP printing all bills and make just coins , they could be in different shapes and sizes,
If you don't print new bills the old ones will wear out and people will have to use the coins

Agreed. The only way to make people use dollar coins over dollar bills is to stop printing dollar bills. That would save money without driving up inflation.

Because, rounding down the final amount on a bill to the nearest nickel is as easy as rounding it up. You don't bother doing so on individual items, it's the final amount owed that becomes rounded off. Thus, on a restaurant bill of say $103.52 rounding that down to $103.50 is shaving off all of two thousandths of a percent. Nobody but Ebenezer Scrooge would care.

I don't believe that they're not printing bills in denominations over $100
when a Benji can't even buy you a decent meal in a nice restaurant anymore.

I understand that cash is basically the currency of criminals only these days,
or so it would seem,
but a hundred bucks is essentially a ten dollar bill from not that long ago.

As for pennies, they could make them of cheaper metal than pure copper.
When I was a kid, there were plenty of iron pennies that were minted during the war years.
Frank Apisa and Eagle Eye must surely remember them.

As easy, yes. As likely? No.

Terry, if there's no such thing as pennies, the restaurant isn't going to give you a bill in pennies. Your bill will be rounded up to $103.55. The people worried about the price of eggs will care. Especially since it won't just be your restaurant bill where the price is rounded up. It will be on everything.

You have no way of knowing that. The restaurant could just as easily round it off to the nearest nickel, up or down, or drop anything less than ten cents off the bill. You don't know, and neither do I how some business would respond to this. In Italy, a non-legal source of tinder in the form of IOU's or mini-checks rose up to handle the issue. People pass these along to take care of the equivalent of pennies, or small change, and it's more symbolic than anything.
