After betraying NATO and Ukraine, Trump launches trade war

Well then, be honest w/ the electorate. Many voted the way they did because of inflation.
I would respect this if you applied the same to both sides

spending 20k per citizen and purposefully using currency debasement to make our debt less scary is is never going to make us financially stable. You also can't usher in any form of conservation improvements either without the critical check and balance against campaign promises of inflationary spending

the progressive platform is completely based on lies and economic idiocy

We'll find out. Based on everything we're hearing, prices will go up for many things that Americans buy if these tariffs stay in place.

Another poster correctly pointed out to me yesterday that risks are taken in business that sometimes pay off big, and that could apply here. But it's definitely a gamble, and at minimum, we're likely to see higher prices and a bear market (at best) for quite awhile.
That's fine. Future Americans deserve The American Dream too..

He promised to lower prices on Day 1.

Tariffs are very likely to raise prices.

So, there's that.
Nah, he promised "starting on day 1"... Which suggests that there is a process to it. Now, I do not like Tariffs, but one thing I know, they are not going to make the price of eggs higher...

The largest and easiest way to lower prices in the US is to lower the cost of energy, and he absolutely began that on day number one.

"I will immediately bring prices down, starting on Day 1."

I mean, we get it - it's classic Trump hyperbole. But he has done very little to address inflation, and it's not getting better, and I think it's a good bet that prices will actually go up now, at least for awhile.

You think he knows what he's doing. I don't. I remember in 2016 he said he'd replace Obamacare w/ something that covered all Americans with better coverage and that the government would pay for. Another "concepts of a plan" thing. We're still waiting on that one. And the list goes on.

Trump just says a lot of stuff. I don't think he has an understanding of complex issues like economics. He understands the border, but that's a simple one.

"starting"... you even quoted it... So, yeah. What I said stands.

In fact, the price of Brent crude is now lower than it's been since 2021.

I'm sure MAGA's think he actually started on Day 1.

Didn't he?

Yes, on January 20, 2025, the first day of his second term, President Donald Trump took actions aimed at lowering energy prices. He signed multiple executive orders focused on energy policy, including declaring a "national energy emergency." This declaration was intended to provide authority to reduce environmental restrictions and expedite permitting for energy infrastructure projects, such as oil and gas production and transmission lines. Additionally, he issued an order to boost Alaskan oil and gas production by easing regulatory burdens, aligning with his campaign promise to increase domestic energy supply and reduce costs for consumers. These actions were part of a broader strategy to "unleash American energy," as Trump stated, with the goal of addressing high energy prices and enhancing national energy dominance.

While these steps were initiated on day one, their impact on actually lowering energy prices depends on various factors, including implementation timelines, global market dynamics, and industry responses, which may take time to materialize.

Less people die in trade wars, and overall they cost less than say just throwing so much money at Ukraine so quickly that they don't know where half of it has gone and nobody seems to care.
Who doesn’t know where half of it has gone?

Long term Ukraine aid would be worth it…. Ask Neville Chamberlain

What a false post. People starve in trade wars. They go broke. They suffer. You have no idea what is happening to the aid? We sent military equipment.

That's the price for getting America right.

What was false?
They do?
That's right, none of us knows what is happening to the $ billions we sent to Ukraine already.

Yet, they won. The USSR left and we didn't have to throw Eleventy Jillion Dollars at them and hope it hit the right pockets. We did that one cheap.
We sent a lot of military aid to Afghanistan, and then when the USSR pulled out, we sent nothing... Allowing Al Qaeda to build a power base, and starting a war that cost trillions of dollars. Afghanistan has cost us many, many times as much as Ukraine ever will.

I had an uncle from Ukraine in the 1930s. (not blood)
He was a helluva dude, though.
He knew how to farm. That's what he knew how to do, and he knew how to fuckin' do it.
Russia did the Holodomor, a mass genocide in Ukraine in the early 1930's. From what you write, your uncle probably fled/survived that.

Ukrainians are great farmers.

It cost us 13 brave Americans due to the debacle by the vegetable and:

President Trump has demanded the return of $7 billion in weapons left behind in Afghanistan after the 2021 withdrawal, but the Taliban...

Get a clue, Walter.

The War in Afghanistan cost us 2,420 American lives, and terrorists headquartered in Afghanistan killed 3,000+ Americans in the USA.

Well over a trillion dollars of materials were wasted in Afghanistan.
