Doesn't a "comedian" have to be funny to be one? Colbert did this to himself. He ranted against his bosses and the company that puts his show on and they responded by firing him. That's what companies usually do to people that front them off in public.

Twenty years ago Colbert was funny. His parody of conservatives was spot on. Then he made a hard turn Left and went on late night becoming just another whiney, shrill, and humorless Progressive on television.
Saying that the Late Show is top-rated in its time slot is like some car company commercial saying their vehicle is "best in its class." It's an almost meaningless phrase that parses out most of the competition leaving just the Late Show with a very narrow bracket of competitors.

Questionable whether CBS was moved entirely by the show's production costs and didn't find them a convenience for caving .
