A beginner's guide to being an atheist, by Richard Dawkins

Extremists and conspiracy theorists only see what they want to see. Weird!

While it's an example of confirmation bias, it doesn't explain why they are like that. When a person seems normal in most areas and goes full-on raging wackadoodle in a particular subject, it piques my interest. It's not mental illness and is most likely related to trauma.

Fredo and Perry are examples of mental deficiency, but @domer76 strikes me as normal in every regard except when discussing religion. Hence, trauma is the mostly likely causal factor.
It happens a lot on message boards, people responding to what they wish you wrote rather than what you actually wrote.

Perry and Domer probably want Jesus to answer the questions they have about "scripture", but that has nothing to do with what I wrote.

Obviously, Jesus cannot have answered any questions about New Testament scripture, because it didn't exist yet.

And the questions and debates between Jesus and the Pharisees about interpretation of Torah is so universally known, it is not required to scurry off and compile a list of citations.

No citation needed. It's universally known to anyone with a working knowledge of Christianity that the Pharisees were constantly asking Jesus tough questions about his interpretation of Torah.

It's the kind of thing that does not have to be proven.
Got it.

Now, on those tough questions about Christianity that you seem to want to avoid. And millions of other Christians.

Why did you change/edit/alter the nature of the comment I wrote?
I said nothing about scripture -->

The New Testament scripture didn't exist in 30 AD.

Jesus was consistently being asked questions about his interpretation of Torah.
That’s EXACTLY the topic at hand. Church dogma. The Bible. Followers, not thinkers. What the fuck did you think I was referring to?

Great about Jesus. He had an interpretation of his scripture. Now, quote the passage.

Let’s do this, pally boy.

Pick any of my posts on any of the threads on religion and give it your best shot to either discuss or refute the validity of my actual words or the citations I use.

I’ll wait.

I'm not even sure Perry was aware how stupid he sounded for mocking the idea of listening to audio books and watching debates and lectures.

It's almost like Perry is not playing with a full deck!:palm:
It's another reason why I think he was closer to the truth about having the mind of a 12-year-old even though he's well over 30.

IMO, he has a mental deficiency, not a mental illness.

It's sure not normal for a geochem PhD to get stressed about his intellectual performance against posters who only have bachelor's and master's degrees.

Pick out one of your strawmen and debate it? LOL Hard pass, domer76.

Despite all of your screaming and theatrics, I'm not religious. If you'd read my posts, my curiosity is piqued by adult Americans who resort to purely emotional responses on certain topics. With the MAGAts, it's politics. With you, it's Christianity. I discount people who are obviously mentally ill like Fredo or deficient like Perry since the reason for their views is clearly based upon their mental issues.

Why you hate Christianity so much that you turn into an emotional hot mess whereas on other topics, you appear normal, is a mystery to me. You won't admit to the reason. Your choice. I suspect it's still a very traumatic memory for you.

That’s EXACTLY the topic at hand. Church dogma
The Christian Church did not exist in 30 AD during the ministry of Jesus.

The comment I wrote, and which you responded to, had nothing to do with the church nor with New Testament scripture, which also did not exist in 30 AD.
The Jesus of the gospels always encouraged questions.
I think what you are demanding of me is that Jesus answer 'your' questions.

It didn't take long to see that Perry was "exaggerating" his academic credentials. LOL
I'm not even sure why it's necessary to randomly trot out one's academic degree on a message board. For most of us, college was four or five decades ago, and our learning and self-education did not end at age 22.

I undoubtedly have learned more between the ages of 22 to 61 than I did between the ages 18 to 22.

Snakes would be too distracting.

I thought the Pentecostals sometimes handled snakes in their service. That's just effing weird.
It is weird. Obviously related to the Snake-in-the-Garden story. Unlike the UK, which only has one venomous snake or Ireland which has no snakes at all, religious immigrants to America found a lot of venomous snakes. I wonder if that had something to do with it.

According to the Wiki article below, the practice didn't start in US Christianity until the 20th century.

The practice began in the early 20th century in Appalachia and plays only a small part in the church service. Participants are Holiness, or Pentecostals. The beliefs and practices of the movement have been documented in several films and have been the impetus for a number of state laws related to the handling of venomous animals.

Okay, so snake handling like the Rapture is just a fairly recent invention of American Protestant fundamentalists.

We can dismiss it out of hand

My guess is partly one-upmanship. i.e. bullying. It's a common reaction from weak people who have been bullied to seek out others to bully. What could be easier than someone who can't harm you on an anonymous chat forum?

Another is Appeal to Authority, specifically argumentum ad seipsum since they often use themselves as the authority as many MAGAts and @domer76 frequently post.

argumentum ad seipsum is when person references themselves as authority.

Of course I know how to deal with this flu, I’m a doctor.
Person in power or other government official are definitely in better position to use this way of argument because the leader is expected to produce not so much a logically reasoned, but an authoritative opinion. If the same is expressed by someone else, then the expectation changes: the opinion should be reasonably justified.
Pally boy, I had more science by junior high than you have your entire life.
Do some fucking homework on your Yahweh, moron. You ain’t gonna like it.

Your precious Genesis mentions multiple gods, but you’re too fucking stupid to realize what your own holy book says.
Pretty fucking sad that someone who claims to have read the Bible three times doesn’t know shit about their own god.

That’s what happens when you’re the stupidest motherfucker on the forum. And you’ll remain that way because you’re intellectually lazy.
I came across the history of YAHWEH when I was researching the history of Israel and Palestine after the Hamas attack on Israel, pally boy. Prior to that, I was unaware of that history.

So, it looks like you stepped in it again. You seem to want to look foolish with all your assumptions here.

Explain to the board exactly why listening to audio books and watching debates, lectures, and podcasts is not a profitable way to learn.

Because you are a sub-literate. You are just another mouthbreather online "doing your own research".

And it shows.

Next time you want to discuss the BIble, try reading the Bible and not going with Google AI. That would show you are serious and not just another loser.

Yes. Jesus wasn't handling snakes when he was teaching in Jerusalem...no matter what the atheists believe. LOL

Poor, poor Perry. Have you considered seeing your school counselor? You know, the one for "special" students?
