"Corrupt ‘Kids for Cash’ judge ruined more than 2,000 lives"

"Judge Ciavarella, who sentenced around 3,000 children in a similar manner, was later sentenced himself to 28 years in prison for financial crimes related to his acceptance of $2.2 million as a finder’s fee for the construction of a for-profit facility in which to house these so-called delinquents."

TD strikes out again!

Criminals will be criminals whether it is a Government paid judge, or a bribed politician. That doesn't make the case for private run prisons wrong.

If we operated using your naive child like logic, nothing would work because someone abused the system so we need to shut it down.

Tell me something brainiac, who do you blame when it is Government run?

Terrible...He's a Democrat, isn't he?:(

Don't know. The issue was about 'For-Profit Prisons'.
My opinion, you can't solve problems by pointing at other people and screaming "Blue Team" or "Red Team".

I agree...but it is what it is...
Odd...and tragic...that no one stepped in and stopped it...
And I bet people were trying....

If you read the Article, the Judge was removed and given 28 years in Prison.
The 'For-Profit' Prisons create an incentive to lock people up.

"According to NBC News, which first reported the story, Sallie Mae, the private student loans lender, paid for its employees to vacation in Maui at the Fairmont Kea Lani to celebrate a record year of $5 billion in student loans to 374,000 student loan borrowers. Sallie Mae’s CEO, Ray Quinlan, said the retreat was a “sales get together for all our salespeople,” adding that Sallie Mae has taken similar trips since the 1970’s."

Do you support saddling our 18 year old kids with Student Debt? Wall Street loves it. Having the IRS as the 'Debt Collector' is brilliant. Indenturing the little bastards at an early age, then bleeding them for the next 20 years, ... how does it get any better than this???

That's it. Judges lock up people because the prisons make a profit not because they committed crimes.

I support those taking out the student loans paying back what they agreed to pay when they took the loan. Why do you support those of us that didn't take them out repaying what we didn't borrow?

I have a solution. If their parents think they're such a good investment, let the ones that created them pay for them to go to college.

No one but themselves is saddling them, indenturing them, or bleeding them with debt. I don't recall signing the papers when THEY took out the loans.

"First, if you're already receiving some forms of government aid — such as food stamps or TANF — then under Yang's plan you would choose to keep your current benefits or take the $1,000-a-month UBI instead. In other words, rather than stacking atop the existing welfare state, Yang's Freedom Dividend would replace portions of it depending on recipients' voluntary decisions.
Granted, America's existing welfare programs are shot through with capricious requirements, random income cutoffs, and a whole mess of despiriting bureaucracy that lower-income Americans have to navigate. As Yang himself put it: "Our welfare programs are designed to be difficult." Replacing that maze with a simple, monthly, no-strings-attached check would arguably leave a lot of people better off, even if some of them would have to give up some of their existing benefits."

I agree it would be more efficient and you could cut the bureaucracy.

Ok, well, it sounds like Yang has changed his position on this then. Originally, he was saying that it would be stacking atop the current system. If he's saying that it would be an either-or policy, that's feasible, but just going ahead and replacing everything with UBI would be best.

Wrong; there should be no welfare at all. Welfare creates dependency. Welfare ensures dystopia. Welfare creates malaise. Welfare is the bane of human endeavor.

If you REALLY want to make things better and prosperous, here is what you do:

(1) eradicate the Tax Code and supplant it with the Fair Tax;
(2) Term limits for Congress critters. 3 terms for the House, two for the Senate; and
(3) Eliminate the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Energy and Education.

Anything less is window dressing and won't do a damn thing to improve anyone's lives or reduce the massive debt and deficits.

Ideally, that would be best. Incremental change is usually more feasible than major changes though.

Think of it like how Trump hasn't outright ended any department, but he's reduced regulations enough that another Republican president after him might be able to shrink government further.

Wups. You forgot the Environmental Protection Agency. They're unconstitutional too.
