5 myths about Old Europe

If you get me mad enough I'll say some stupid crazy shit in defense of the South. It's a very weak point for me argumentatively.

Anybody who actually looks at abortion rates in an area when considering moving should be shot in the face.

Twice.

You knew I would have to look this up. Poverty rate.....you may be right. The data is somewhat fuzzy. Abortion rate......nope:

Oklahoma - 10 per 1000

http://www.statemaster.com/graph/hea_abo_rat-health-abortion-rate

Denmark - 16.5 per 1000

No matter.... I love living here.

Okay, I was totally wrong about the abortion rate on Denmark. you owned me.

I must have been thinking of some other western european countries. Maybe it was Netherlands. I remember reading somewhere that they had an astonishingly low abortion rate.

Well, in my part of the state the abortion rate is even lower. There is no way I would want to raise my kid in the city.....for a number of reasons, none of which have anything to do with abortion rates or low morals or things like that.

Hahaha that was awesome. He called your bluff.

I think it was the Netherlands btw, I'm pretty sure I read that too.

But abortion is quite literally murder, according to at least 5 or six posters here. So, its very cleary near and dear to the hearts of many. :)

I think maybe Holland. Haven't looked that one up but think I remember hearing it somewhere. As to "owning"....nah, I have enough family and livestock to say grace over and have never understood the "ownage" posts of rob and dano and the like. Got to run. You folks have a good day.:)

I crack my shit up when Dano tries to statistically prove that "liberalism" is affecting people's living areas so drastically.

If you're looking at taxes, that's sensible. Business regulations if you're starting a company, sure. If you're a pothead or a heroin addict you should probably glance at the drug laws, naturally.

If you're looking at local rates of abortion, divorce, or evangelism as the crux of your decision, then I must reiterate my desire to put two rounds into your face.

Agreed that, in and of themselves, these are relatively minor things. Abortion in particular. As long as abortion is legal and safe, I don't focus on it.

But, these and other metrics can show the health of a community or nation. If the poverty rate, the crime rate, the divorce rate, and the children born out of wedlock rate are through the roof, there is something wrong fundamentally with that community.

This may be the first time I've ever forced you into defending a socially conservative position just to disagree with me.

What are you babbling about? I've been citing social metrics for years on this board, as a measure of the health of a society. Poverty rate, crime rates, longevity rates, child death rates. And in nearly all cases, its the social liberal democracies of the world, that rate best on the social metrics.

Please. You said: divorce rates, children born out of wedlock reflects something "fundamentally wrong" with that area.

What that they're fundamentally poor? Or fundamentally don't give a shit about fundamentalist morality?

Poverty, disease, child mortality rates are all useful, scientific measurements of a society's human development level.

Don't try to act like these ridiculous "morality statistics" are a useful measurement of anything. You're sounding like Pat Robertson.

Babies being born out of wedlock to teenage mother, is a proxy metric for poverty, lack of education, lack of contraception, lack of healthcare, and lack of economic opportunity, lack of sex ed information. All of which are bad.

Weeeeeeeaaaaaak.

Weeeeeeeaaaaaak.

ALMOST 40% OF CHILDREN BORN IN THE U.S. IN 2005 WERE OUT OF WEDLOCK, AN ALL-TIME HIGH….The U.S. teen birth rate is still the highest among industrialized countries.

Why do you think its the highest, warren?

Because we have more girls with less access to healthcare, contraception, economic opportunity, and sexual education than Norway or Sweden, or Germany?
