Alaska

I work for a company under contract where we are hired to fix failing organizations.

Anything from a school system to an NFL organization, human resource offices, supply chains, anything that isn't being efficient.

The school I'm going to is not meeting state requirements for test scores so they hired us to go up there and fix it.

I was assigned the contract.

I will go up there, study the situation and find where the problem is then make the appropriate changes which usually means rewriting policy, firing everyone and hiring all new people.

I don't believe you.

Hope you get paid well.
I almost accepted a part time gig there.
Had all my paperwork done, I was credentialed and ready to go. Then they lost it all.
Fortunately I had made copies of all the paperwork and resubmitted it.
Then the HR lady wanted all my records of all the patients I had seen over the last three years. Of course I didn’t have that having sold my practice but it would have been an obvious HIPAA violation to share that information with anyone.
They seemed extremely disorganized.
I told them to forget it. I wasn’t desperate enough to fuck around with them.
It’s a AK Native village so you can expect a lot of dysfunction.
If you have to depend on natives for anything, good luck.
If they show up for work three days in a work week, that’s a good week for them.
Expect to be hated. They hate white people.

Bingo. And many, MANY,...MANY extreme alcoholics.

Generational Alcoholism. How can parents do the job of bringing up intelligent, well mannered, good students serious about learning if they are constantly drunk ? They cant. This isnt just a problem in Alaskan native communities,....this is a problem in EVERY Native community. When I say EVERY,...I mean EVERY. You have an unfixable problem. Skew the numbers and move on,.....

BUT BUT BUT surely if they are told by a know it all from the lower 48 to imput better numbers then they will comply......

In all fairness,....its not really about the kids complying. Kids raised by the most horrid alcoholics anyone has ever seen rarely have a chance at accomplishing much of anything. Its a generational way of life.

For the record I have always thought it was goofy that we call these folks NATIVE Americans. As we all know,...many years ago they migrated here just as Hispanics and other euro's did. By definition they are NOT native to North America. I dont really care that they are called native,...just always thought the label was nonsensical to hear a teacher tell a class all in the same sentence about how the NATIVE Americans migrated here from Asia.

You should teach a class in Creative Trolling while you're up there.

Obviously but it was entertaining.
How did she come up with Kotzebue of all places?
I know from personal experience it is an extremely dysfunctional town.

So I just accepted a contract job in Kotzebue Alaska to reform one of their schools there.

I hear it get's cold up there.

It will probably be about 9-12 months worth of work.

Does anyone have any experience in Alaska and might know what I'm in for?

I live in Phoenix currently.

Kotzebue is 513 northwest of Anchorage and 30 miles above the Arctic Circle and also one of the closest parts to Russia outside of their islands.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Phoenix to Alaska should be an easy transition, Tink.
You're already accustomed to living in the nether regions.
There may be some mild adjustments required in winter apparel selection.

In any case, best of luck with your new reform school assignment.

Get ready for Black Outs and White Outs!

White outs from the snow in winter, where all you see in front of your face is WHITE!

And Black outs in Summer, caused by Mosquitos, is all you see in front of your face!

And also get ready for your Body Clock to go through a shock to your system, where in the summer, it stays light all day, and in the winter, it stays dark all day!

This comes as a shock to most people trying to adjust to it, and many people have a problem being able to handle these phenomenal stresses mentally and physically!

I leave tomorrow at 7am and should arrive at 7pm in Kotzebue, AK

What a crock of shit. Standardized testing has been proven a failure in this nation. Maybe you got false information from your comrades? There is nothing to fix, and your fictional contract makes absolutely no sense.

Don't worry, it will be just like your hometown of Minsk.

We believe this like we believe that you retired at age 42 because you took all your husbands' money.
