AMERICAN GUN VIOLENCE: WE'RE A 24/7 SHOOTING GALLERY FOREVER--LIVE WITH IT

No it doesn't, I lean left, and qualified on five weapons in the service, means little

And you didn't answer the question, why do you or anyone else need "a semi-automatic rifle or a magazine with more than 10 rounds?" It is not all about you, but, as the Founders intended, what is best for the common good, and no one is coming to take away your toys

Need. Do you seriously believe the Founders thought every American needed to justify their inalienable rights much less their enumerated rights? Yes or no, please. I'm a solid "No".

This is precisely why many of the Founders were against the idea of a Bill of Rights in the first place; they knew some assholes would consider it a limitation on citizens, not government.

Does a woman have to have a "need" for an abortion? Do you really need a computer? Much less more than one?

Do you believe that the heroin deaths were deliberate or just stupid overdoses?
one of them was my son. that was deliberate. the other one..............questionable. I do know they both always complained about how much it hurt just living...........

Do you think that's just "weakness" on their part or mental illness? Mental illness covers a lot of territory. Like catching a cold, we're all mentally ill during periods of life. Obviously mostly minor in nature, not murderous or suicidal.

People can go to the hospital for a cold, but it's not necessary for most. Same for most people living through life's ups and downs. OTOH, there's time when mental health medical attention is required. A heroin addiction, much less an OD, is one of those time.

Suicide can be logical, but, except in cases of terminal diseases, it's usually not. It's more mental illness than logical.

We are not going to ban guns. Agree with you on suicide prevention; they already have such programs in schools... even grade schools. :(

Yet. :D How many schools are psych screening their students once a year? Much less twice? Psych screens should be as common as physical screens.

If a kid keeps showing up at school with bruises, do you think there should be a protocol or SOP for it? What about kids who are consistently one way then suddenly start acting very different, often very negative but could also be excessive exuberance?

If such programs existed, then wouldn't the bullying and suicide rates drop? Results count. What is being done to improve the results compared to banning high capacity magazines.....forgetting that the vast majority of gun suicides is a single shot. Don't you ever think "WTF?"

There ARE protocols for that. Teachers and other school staff are mandated reporters.

Again, school staff are mandated to report evidence of abuse. They also are often the first to notice changes in behavior, and are to contact the school's administration and/or the parents with their concerns. Sadly, some parents just don't give a shit. Maybe they are a single parent and are overwhelmed with just trying to work and pay the bills. Or they have substance abuse problems. Or they didn't want kids but couldn't get an abortion for whatever reason(s). Lots of homes are unfortunately like that.

There is no reason why anyone, outside of law enforcement or military, NEEDS a weapon with a high capacity magazine. None. You are not going hunting with that. You are not going to practice your marksmanship with that. You are definitely not going to stop the Army or police with that if they have reason to come for you.

Obviously the program still needs work if assholes like Nikolas Cruz and Robert Long are still slipping through. None of the mass shooters over the past several years has been sane. All telegraphed their problems to friends and doctors but the system failed to catch their problems until they took took the lives of others and, often, their own.

Long’s life turned toward the tumultuous. He started college classes and left after one year. He believed he was straying from his faith, telling friends that he was fixated on sex to the extent that he thought he was addicted. His relationship with a girlfriend collapsed after she found out that he frequented massage businesses, according to his roommate. His bond with his parents frayed; on the night before the shootings, they threw him out of their house, according to police.

When our nation starts talking about needing a right, be it an abortion or a 13 shot magazine, then We, the People are in trouble.

Not always, using the gun is often -- especially for teenagers in the midst of the usual angst we all go through -- easy to use and takes no planning. I know two young people who died when they were 16 from suicide by gun. The girl was my kids' friend and lived across the street. She begged her parents after shooting herself not to let her die, but she did.

The only school killing when I was in school was a kid self-immolated himself with a knife in the middle of class.
The kids in that class were traumatized.

No doubt. Was he someone that you knew?

My oldest daughter (age 43) had a kid walk by her in the hall between classes with a hand gun. He went into his algebra class and took the teacher and students hostage. The rest of the school was evacuated. Thankfully they were able to talk him into surrendering and no one was injured. I don't recall anymore (if I ever heard even) what his grievance was.

Yet every time the gun argument comes up, we all hear/see the ammosexuals claiming that they NEED an AR/high-capacity mag/arsenal/whatever.

A woman with a dangerous health condition may very well NEED an abortion in order to live.

I'm confused about your argument here.

No, did not know him. They said he just stood up, yelled something and did it.

High-cap mags are needed because blacks/illegal Mexicans home invade 6-12 deep and may require more than 1 shot apiece.

No American should ever have to justify a "need" for an enumerated right much less inalienable right.

There are already limits on our rights where the rights of other citizens are concerned. I'm not allowed to "brandish" a firearm or shoot it into the air where it could endanger people.

A woman has control of her body. At some point, best determined by medical science, the fetus becomes developed enough that it has rights too. 24 weeks? 28 weeks? Birth? What if it has no functioning forebrain? Late term abortion? These should be medical decisions for the rights of the human beings involved, with the mother being the foremost life to be saved.

How does me having a 13 shot magazine harm anyone? Why would anyone suggest I be limited to only 10 round magazines? Or 5? Single shot? Why am I being treated as guilty when I've never committed a crime except speeding when I was younger?

Some abortions are needed, when the fetus threatens the life of the mother, when the fetus is so deformed it will only suffer debilitating pain when born. There are some abortions that are needed.
