American Suicide Bombers

... and wait for COVID v.2: Now It Really Means It.

ROFLMAO. Instead of "Thanks" and "Groans" we should have "Good" and "LMAO".

No doubt the US will see some places go well above the curve. The problem is this: "Where is the balance between an economic depression with a low body count and a prospering nation with a high body count?

The fact the Right Wing Nut Jobs won't admit bringing the economy back increases the body count is just another example they are science and fact-deniers.

...LWers weren't protesting during a pandemic and violating stay-at-home orders. Totally different things, totally different times. No one would have cared or paid much attention if these assholes had just stayed in their vehicles and gridlocked everything like the original plan (In Lansing anyways that was the plan). But no, they had to get out and wave their Rebel flags around and act like pissy fools.

I heard yesterday that one of them tested positive but haven't been able to confirm that at all. Probably just a rumor. For now.

A good question to ask is "Due to actions like these; will there be more Republicans or less at the polls in November?"

Probably less. Even though I like the thought of less idiot Trump voters, I still don't want them to necessarily die. I especially don't want them to infect others who had nothing to do with their insanity -- their neighbors, casual contacts, someone at their grocery store, the health care workers who will try to save their miserable lives.

TBH, I haven't done or seen a correlation between how Left or Right the states were with the protests and the actual levels of severity the lockdown was. Not every city has all the same problems. Something worth examining.

Regardless, I have faith our system of government will allow a good middle-ground solution over the next six months.

Yes, we'll work it out. It's just a shame that we have an IMPOTUS instigating this shit, with the very good likelihood that ppl who wouldn't have otherwise died are going to because of these misguided morons.

Michigan's lockdown is very similar to that of Vermont's. The difference? Vermont has an (R) governor, and is not in play as a battleground state. Michigan, Wisconsin, and Virginia are. It's not a coincidence; it is deliberate instigation of lawlessness by the IMPOTUS to further his re-election aims.

That's also my opinion. Whether or not it is enough to tip the election remains to be seen. Another consequence is a pissed-off base who, although they lived, found out the hard way that COVID-19 isn't a fake virus or "not as bad as the flu" which results in voters flipping or just staying home. A net erosion of the base.

True about Trump, but the Republican Congress is just as guilty. Consider ways to rectify that particular situation.

Gettin' a little excited there, arncha' Geeko?

Trump's balls exist, but are like a non-functional musket in the Smithsonian: for display only.

This is the fundamental question about Trump: "Is Trump a liar or just delusional?" I've long thought he was delusional. He actually believes most of the shit coming out of his mouth and Twitter feed. Yes, even when it changes daily. That's what delusional people do; believe whatever whimsy enters their brains. They can't help it.

In Trump's case, I think the Republicans have been nursing a mentally unfit President for far too long. I do understand the realities of the Election, both the WH and, IMO, more importantly, in Congress. I think 2021 may bring some changes the structure of the US government. Good changes.

Donald Trump is not stupid- He may be insane- But he is not stupid.

His quotes like, "I like Stupid people!" is his secret to success. He is a control freak that uses conjecture and conspiracy theories to stir up the emotions of the Ugly Americans that are hateful racists and self-interest groups that use politics for sport with a win-at-any-cost mentality. The liars and cheaters of the world who conduct themselves exactly in the same manner that he conducts himself like using insults, conjecture, hate, to antagonize and take advantage of others.

Donald Trump is just as bad and evil as the ones who elected him. They are a CONVENIENT CONSTITUENCY MADE IN HELL FOR ONE ANOTHER who think they are above the law.

It's evil feeding evil in perpetual motion intended on killing Democracy and our Governmental institutions and dividing Americans and fueling hatred among us.

We are and we will. I don't think that the (R)s are going to do very well in November. Your take?

I think Trump will win reelection and that the Democrats will increase their positions in both the Senate and the House. Of course, all of this is dependent upon the Trump doing everything he wants to happen with opening states.

If some places open and, in early June, the entire country is locked down even harder because of COVID-19 2.0, it will reflect poorly on all of those who allowed or supported what is seen as reckless behavior.....despite all of their denials.

Your second statement is the most likely to happen.

The point of the article is that a small but very loud minority of idiots is putting us at risk of further spread of the disease. They do not represent the majority of Americans. Yet the IMPOTUS is cheering and egging them on -- but only in states with (D) governors of course.

They are out there prancing around without PPE, mingling freely, shaking hands, bellowing -- and infecting others. Then the self-pity rally is over, and off they go to spread their retardation -- and virus -- elsewhere.

tRUMP is not an ideologue with any sustained moral values. He is simply an opportunistic charlatan. As such, he will constantly speak untruths and out of both sides of his mouth. He will promote the safety aspects of social distancing while simultaneously being a Tweeting "rah rah" cheerleader for protestors.

The trump election showed us one thing. The country is full of very stupid people.

The second statement will be reflected in the results of the election.

OTOH, after looking at Trump's average favorability I saw a block about mid-page on the left which gives odds of winning. They have Biden winning the election and show the percentages for the battle ground states.

This year will continue to be both interesting and historical.

I like boring years better.

Let them henceforth be known by the name "Covidiots."

....The trump election showed us one thing. The country is full of very stupid people.

Or they recognize the system is broken and this is their only legal way of saying "Fix it".

As a moderate I have often advocated to everyone unhappy with the nominees in any election to always vote for the challenger. In a two-party system, keep voting for the challenger in every election until one or the other party nominates someone you can truly support.

He has a 5th-grade vocabulary and makes little sense when he speaks. I think he is quite stupid but has a real gift as a conman. Who would have thought that NY real estate liar could con almost half a nation?

Hyperbole or reality? You decide. In this well-reasoned opinion piece, the author makes the argument that the morons (my word) protesting state protective measures are the moral equivalent of a suicide bomber.

"The Post reported Sunday far-right militias, led by three brothers, have used Facebook to organize “anti-quarantine protests” at state capitols around the country. Tens of thousands have joined their Facebook group, giving the impression that a “populist libertarianism” sentiment is emerging more than opinion surveys would suggest.
...

"This activity is being amplified by the president, who appeared last week on Twitter to encourage armed resistance to state-based initiatives aimed at containing the novel coronavirus pandemic with orders to stay home. The “protests” were in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Michigan and others swing states Donald Trump needs to win reelection.

"Meanwhile, the Pew Center, which is the gold standard for measuring public opinion, released a new survey in which 66 percent of Americans fear their state governments will lift restrictions “too quickly.” Sixty-five percent said “Trump’s initial response” to the COVID-19 pandemic was “too slow.” Moreover, 73 percent said the worst is yet to come. (Implicit is the widespread doubt of Washington’s ability to face the challenge.)

...

"To be sure, “silent majority” is what fascists have said for decades when they need to contravene a rapidly changing view on, say, an overseas war going south. “Silent majority” is what a literal minority invokes to smash a literal majority in the face. Even so, Nixon’s words should resonate right now when 41,000 Americans are dead from COVID-19. “If a vocal minority, however fervent its cause, prevails over reason and the will of the majority, this nation has no future as a free society,” Nixon said. Individuals can’t be truly free. In the collective, however, can be found the meaning of freedom.

"In this sense, the protesters have it backwards. They believe (or pretend to believe; more on that in a moment) that government coercion is the opposite of individual freedom. Stay-at-home orders infringe their liberty. If they want to risk getting sick—or dying—that’s their right. No government has the authority to tell them otherwise.

"This thinking ignores the fact that one person’s right to liberty ends with another person’s right to security, and that all governments are charged with balancing all of those rights for everyone’s sake. (Whether a government is striking the right balance is usually reflected by the majority view.) For this reason, coercion is not the opposite of freedom during a pandemic. Coercion, at least for now, is in the service of freedom. Only when everyone is acting in everyone else’s interest can this crisis be overcome."
