The government cannot enforce your alleged right to remain safe from a virus. My evidence? People have been dying from viruses for as long as there have been people. Now you're trying to single out one particular virus. It's just silly.

Correct. Obviously there's a difference in mortality rates of different viruses such as chickenpox (kids 0.001%, adults 0.02%) and COVID-19 (currently 2.0%).

Are you proposing we just go Ops Normal and take the 2% hit like Americans? Uncontrolled, that same link says the mortality rate would go up to 3% or more.

Ummmm.....I have slight problem with that. People certainly have a right to defend themselves, but saying "people have the right to stay safe" seems to say they have a right to force people to never drive their cars because it puts people in danger.

We have no idea what the actual mortality rate is, but current evidence points to it being far lower than your link claims. Only confirmed cases are used in the calculation, and we know tests were overwhelmingly performed on people deemed highly likely to have the virus. We also know there are a large number of asymptomatic carriers who are very unlikely to be tested. Only when mass testing for Covid-19 antibodies is done will we learn the true mortality rate.

The nation's resources announce it daily. It could be lower, the jury is still out. If it was 3% does it matter to you? Isn't your logic that it doesn't matter if it's 0.0001% or 10%, that the mortality rate is a irrelevant?

The right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances = peacefully protest (or just gather together). They have a very legitimate reason to protest. The government is restricting rights unreasonably in many cases. We shouldn't be treating rural areas in Michigan the same as NYC, but that is what's happening. The protesters aren't idiots. They're patriots. You seem like the kind of person who would risk a lot to protect 2nd amendment rights. Why not the 1st amendment?

I agree that rural areas should be treated differently than a hot spots like NYC. The problem is if you make some areas less restrictive people from the hotter spots will go there and wa la the virus infects more people. Plus people tend to get complacent. An example my area went weeks with 1 or 2 getting infected. People quit wearing masks when shopping and all of a sudden we had a large jump in infections. Now people are wearing masks again. It would be the same if we loosened some areas to much.

It most definitely isn't 10%. My logic is that people's Constitutional rights aren't canceled out because we happen to be dealing with a virus with a less than 1% mortality rate.

You're dodging the question. Do you agree that the mortality rate doesn't matter even if it was 10%? If not, then at what % mortality rate do you think the Feds should get involved or the States institute a lockdown?
