I've seen it on a grand scale. I won't get into details, but it was bad.

It started with a call from some high up muckity muck in the State Department. Every call began with "Chief, you did nothing wrong..."

I never got all the details but I'm pretty sure people at other commands went to jail over it.

My CO said I deserved a medal for how I handled things but that I'd never get one for it. I knew that was true long before he told me so.
