I wasn't a member of any online forums until the Trump presidency. I don't know what the level of online discourse was before then (except for my own social media), but I have been consistently more appalled by the Trumpists and other racists, on a degrading daily basis, since I began participating. I know that in person discourse has suffered, so I assume the same is true here. The things that these people say are reprehensible. I think most of us knew that they were always like this, but "PC culture" (i.e., basic decency) at least forced them to be racist in the closet. Now they're out waving their confederate flags and openly calling strangers niggers. It's the death gasps of a bunch of old white assholes who will cling to their privilege tighter than their guns. Ironically, it's easier to take their privilege than their guns.
