If I have stated in my advanced directive (which I have) that I do not want to be kept alive on life support if there is no hope to return to my former state, that should be honored, right? If I decide to take up smoking or excessive drinking, and am not subjecting others to it, that should be my choice, eh?

The Republicans have become RW Democrats with their attempts to impose religious morality on the nation. It's one of the reasons why I'm no longer a Republican.

We have two forces working together to create our current situation. There is a need for cheap labor in this country, which many immigrants provide. There is a desire for people to come here, especially less educated laborers, because there's opportunity for them to better their lives for themselves and their families. Our current immigration laws do a very less than stellar job of handling this. But Congress is incapable of passing reform to address this. Thus the problem persists and nothing changes.

And the economic reality is if you kick every out who's here illegally (or overstayed their visa's) and there would be a massive economic hit to our economy. And people in power understand that.
