The flu shot is a vaccine by definition. It has always been called a vaccine. It acts as a vaccine. It is similar to the Covid vaccine in that it loses it's efficacy over time.

The definition clearly defines the Covid vaccine and the influenza vaccine. The definition says nothing about the immunity has to last forever. The immunity could be short lived and still meet the definition.
Under your definition the tetanus vaccine is not a vaccine since it loses its efficacy over time and requires a booster.

Flu shots ARE vaccines. It does provide immunity against that variant of influenza. There are thousands of variants, however.
Note that catching that variant of influenza and recovering does the same thing. You are immune to that variant for life.

No vaccine prevents infection.
The Covid 'vaccine' seems to be rather ineffective. People are still suffering the full effects of the symptoms from an infection of this virus, even when vaccinated. Further, the vaccine itself contains risks for using it. To mandate a vaccine (any vaccine) creates paradox V. It is no different with the Covid19 placebo.
Vaccines are not a cure. They do absolutely nothing about a current infection of a virus.
None of these viruses have been eradicated. They all still exist. So do the viruses causing them.
