The above is a good article on why this vote is little more than political bullshit from the left.

"Why, if Pelosi is so committed to ending genocide, aren’t she and Senate Democrat leaders doing something about the ongoing genocide in Darfur or the massacres of protesters in Burma?"

"The Democrat leadership could write and pass legislation insisting the UN intervene to save the living instead of using the memory of the dead to score political points. In neither case should we intervene militarily. But the lack of concern for ongoing mass murder proves the Democrats’ only purpose is to enrage the Turkish government and end their cooperation on Iraq. "

You read human events!??

isn't that that David Horowitz rag - one of the most extreme of the extremist rightwing sites?

Does that change the validity of the opinion?

Seriously. What good reason is there to bring this up now nearly 100 years and a totally different government later?

HUMAN EVENTS gives voice to the great conservative thinkers of our era -- Robert Novak, Michelle Malkin, L. Brent Bozell, Terence Jeffrey, Bruce Bartlett, Thomas Sowell, David Limbaugh, Oliver North, Pat Buchanan and many more.

Let me guess, he tried to discredit the author because he is a conservative?

Typical bullshit from that idiot. Ignore him and wait for individuals who will actually discuss the content of the article rather than try to divert to an attack on the author.

It could be a back door attempt to get our troops out of Iraq.

And?

The American people want them home. The President has thumbed his nose at the American people (maybe we should invade him?) and subverted their will. So has the republican party.

The dems do not enjoy a fillibuster or veto proof majority.

If this is their attempt at giving the American people what they so clearly want, so?

The article is specualtive spin. I do not have enough accurate information to decide what the real reason for the vote condemning the Armenian massare is all bout.

The areticle might be right at least in part by the dems undermining the war effort or it might not. I really do not know.
I am certain that going thru turkey is not the only way to get supplies to the troops as is implied in the article. It is just the current way much of them are gotten there.

The President is not supposed to run the government by opinion polls. I am glad to see that you could care less about pissing off our allies. I could have sworn you libs wanted us to work with other countries with regards to Iraq. Wasn't that what all the outrage was about early on? About Bush pissing all over our allies (France/Germany etc...)???

Very telling that now it is ok for the Dems to piss off our allies just to score political points. Who cares whether or not this will disrupt supplies to the troops. Just so long as the Dems can score a political point... lets just piss off the most pro-democracy middle eastern country that is predominantly muslim.

Lets ignore the fact that the government of the US has already called it a genocide. Lets just bring up something from almost a century ago and try to alienate one of the muslim countries that is tolerant of us.

Maybe if we are lucky, Turkey will respond with a declaration that the British/Fench and early Americans committed genocide against the native populations of North and South America. That will solve a lot of todays problems.

You seem upset. I know that diplomacy is the most important thing in our foreign policy arsenal to you...as it is with most conservatives. That's why they love the French so much.

Maybe you should write a letter to the President, asking him to go to the Dems and plead with them for diplomacy?

Wow, a response. I must have gotten to you with the one-liner ribbing.

That said, I think it is without question that this is being done now for no other reason than political posturing.

As for the supply line... of course it isn't the only way to get supplies to our troops. But it is one of the easiest ways.... and it is the way we are currently running supplies, so to disrupt that means we have to re-route supplies to the troops.

I was just wondering what a kinda-sorta moderate independent dude was doing, crusing the human events website. ;)

I have no idea why this vote is being taken. Nor, do I pretend to. I know that for 20 years, congress has tried to pass something similar, and its always been aruged that "its not the right time". The opinion piece presents no convincing evidence, other than to make unsubstantiated and undocumentd claims that the Dems are trying to do this to withdraw from iraq.

I'm not emotionally invested in this one way or the other. And I simply don't know enough information from this one partisan opinion piece.

It is not the right way to do it. If they wish to bring home the troops vote to defund the war instead of moving to end a relationship with a NATO ally.

I don't need to read an article to determine that the whole vote and the motive is political bs. I can think for myself.

I didn't suggest that you needed the article... I was simply looking to solicit a discussion on the issue. If you do not wish to do so, that is your choice.

So, all you neocon derangement cases, what IS the reason they want the armenian genocide on the record? Just to spoil bush's war?
