Fuck You Too

Prince - Purple Rain
The Cure - Disintegration

Faith No More - The Real Thing

Tears For Fears - Songs From the Big Chair
Eurhythmics - Sweet Dreams
The Police - Synchronicity
Men At Work - Business As Usual

I'm sure I missed a lot. Keep in mind, "The 80's" had far more good songs than good albums.

Okay, you did get THE best album of the 80's: Disintegration - The Cure.

But, c'mon man! "Men at Work"??? Total australian cheese-fest. They haven't stood the test of time. Today, their music sounds really cheesy. In contrast, the Cure sound as awesome today, as they did in the 1980s.

Oh, and U2 and REM are missing. Are "men at work" better than those bands?

Pick any REM album for the 80s. They're all classics.

Personally, I like "Fables of the Reconstruction"

If you want to talk about "standing the test of time" one must look at U2 as well.

Bon Jovi is another that clearly has "stood the test of time", filling stadiums and returning to the recording studio regularly.

Also, one should look at more than just rock music. George Strait has also "stood the test of time".

Off the top of my head:

-Disintegration: The Cure

-In My Tribe: 10,000 Maniacs (Natalie Merchant – best female vocalist ever)

-Back in Black: AC/DC

-The Unforgettable Fire: U2

-Fables of the Reconstruction: REM

-Ghost in the Machine: The Police

-Pretenders: The Pretenders (Chrissy Hynde – second best female vocalist ever)

-Appetite for Destruction: Guns and Roses

How could you overlook...

Frankie goes to Hollywood - Two Tribes?

We totally forgot Def Lepard - "Pyromania"

I think that was the highest selling rock album of the entire decade. Maybe U2s Joshau Tree was higher, I'm not sure.

I'm not a fan of Def Lepard, but their sound has certainly stood the test of time. They get played all the time on the classic rock stations. Cheese-miesters like Men at Work, or Huey Lewis and the News, hardly ever get played.

I'm suprised the B-52s never got mentioned here either.

I thought u missed the best album of all time but then I checked and it missed the 80's by like 17 days.

The Clash - London Calling (2LP) - (December 14, 1979)

Dude u forgot

The Pixies - Surfer Rosa
The Pixies - Doolittle
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation

How could you forget the Pixies?

Pixies were totally underated, and totally overlooked by most people. They were bascially the vanguard for "alternative" rock, but they never got credit for it.

I think the fact that they didn't sell a lot of albums, and didn't really make it into the mainstream conciousness, is why they don't rate on most "greatest of the 80s" list.

Darn I am not sure, I got out of Nam and was still buying albums from the 70's in the 80's....But I am sure that Tull and Yes came out with a few and maybe Pink Floyd. Maybe even Led Zepplin ?

Yeah you are probably right Cypress. If any of you haven't heard the Pixies, do yourself a favor and give them a listen. Both those cds I'd probably put in my top 20 albums ever and Surfer Rosa in the top 5.

Prince - When the Doves Cry
Michael Jackson - Thriller
Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston
George Michael - ?
Bon Jovi - ?

"Prince - When the Doves Cry"
ehh.. not so much

"Michael Jackson - Thriller"

"Whitney Houston - Whitney Houston"

"George Michael - ?"

Uh... NO

"Bon Jovi - ?"

Slippery when wet was pretty good.

Very good list Cypress. A+

I think you could insert just about any U2 album into this list.
