If you are changing the message in a quote box you must change the name to make it obvious that it was not them saying what you are telling them.

So, if you are going to misquote purposefully you need to change the name. In this case you misquoted AssHatZombie and did not change the name. If we have to keep reminding you it is possible we can get annoyed enough to give you a vacation. So, in the future please change the name.

Something like AssChapeauZombie... Folks will know who it is, and they will know you have changed their quote. Otherwise, do not mess with the quotes.

I see no value in non-substantive personal insults, and that's all I've been changing. I have put it in brackets, so that it's very clear there's been an alteration... nobody is going to make the mistake of thinking that's what he actually said. If you see AssHatZombie's personal slurs as having more value to the forum than the substantive analysis I provide, that's your call to make and you can ban me and keep him. It seems a strange hill to die on, though.

I like the fact they permit the insults. I think most forums are too heavily moderated. This one has an interesting approach in allowing insults in most places, but then having a particular sub-forum where it isn't allowed. I just find it funny that a clear alteration of a quotation for comic effect, like I did --one that conspicuously calls attention to itself and that nobody could mistake for being the original statement-- is considered a bridge too far, while constant misogynist insults are just fine. Weird place to draw the line.

I'm not even messing with any part of a post that has actual substance to it -- not altering a person's substantive argument to deride it. I'm just taking parts that are wholly worthless and extraneous in the first place and playing with those. If a person doesn't want any alterations from me, it's as simple as resisting the urge to call me names, and focusing instead on a substantive argument. Is that so much to ask? And if they do choose to engage in name-calling, is it really so bad that I clean that up for them and make it sound nice?

We had a section on DP were it was ok to do that. I'd target a troll and then change what he said to something like, "Has anyone seen my giant dildo? It's time to impale myself". It was fun.. I was just doing stuff not allowed in the "polite" section. That's what got me 86'd. I'm a wild stallion.

I don't know why you are doing this, as the chronology of the posts shows you have no problem with reading comprehension. Clearly, you have a problem with accurate criticism and analysis on this one point. This is why I find Maher's OP vid so refreshing, because he cuts through the BS with some simple, common sense and real world related points.

Since it's obvious where you are going on this, I see little sense in further discussion on this one point.

Reread. You should be able to spot your error. You took my sentence as a personal accusation, when I clearly framed it as a general statement, with the use of "one" instead of "you."

Where I'm going with it is forcing your tor recognize your clear error, so I definitely understand why you don't want to discuss it further. It can be hard to admit when we screw up. It takes character.

I don't care what you change. If you are going to change what they wrote you must change the name and make it obvious. It is the rule. If you won't follow the rules that you agreed to follow when you joined then please leave.

I've started changing the name. It's strange to use such a rule to keep personal insults in place, but if wallowing in that little corner of the sewer appeals to you, I suppose you have the right to make sure it isn't drained.

Ahh, look: the little coward is so frustrated with the constant beat downs I'm giving him that he's demanding I be banned. I suppose if I was as inept when it comes to standing up for my ideas as he is, I'd also be tempted to demand censorship to shelter me.
