Blackburn: "Can you provide a definition for the word 'woman'?"

^ I don't think so. They seem to be taking it very, very seriously.

IMO, only a very loud minority. That's often how it goes in any party until the majority become disturbed enough to act on their own.

Most intelligent, educated and sane members of JPP knew the legal consequences of 1/6 would take years to hash out. The stupid and/or insane either deny it ever happened or that no charges will be filed...until charges started being filed. LOL

Agreed, Christie, the RW nutjobs are taking it seriously, but there are indications the sane people left in the Republican Party are making their own wishes known. The Virginia Governor election is a sign of that change.

Who was it that said Youngkin treated Trump's name like it was Voldemort?

I just saw this in my news feed today. What are your thoughts on the matter?

Jamie Wallis comes out as UK's first openly trans MP, revealing they have been raped and blackmailed

Who the fuck is "they" in "they" were raped and blackmailed? TBH, this guy sounds like a Brit version of Margie Green - a wackadoodle.

A Conservative MP has come out as the first openly transgender member of the UK's parliament.

Jamie Wallis, the MP for Bridgend & Porthcawl in Wales, issued a statement on Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday morning saying "it's time".

In the emotive statement, the MP revealed they had been blackmailed, with the individual demanding £50,000 ($65,653) "to keep quiet". However, Wallis said the police had been "supportive" and the individual was jailed.

Wallis was also raped in September 2021, the statement reveals. "I have not been myself since this incident and I don't think I will ever recover," the MP says, adding they are now suffering PTSD – which led to them fleeing the scene of a car crash in late November 2021.

So you say.
So you've now learned why credentials are absolutely meaningless on internet forums such as this one? --- But yes, whether you choose to believe it or not, I am a biologist. I am also an accountant and a photographer, amongst other things.

Did you learn this in your studies?

There are at least six different biological markers of “sex” in the body: genitals, chromosomes, gonads, internal reproductive structures, hormone ratios and secondary sex characteristics. None of the six is strictly dichotomous, Jordan-Young said, and the different markers don’t always align.

What about karyotypes?
No, I do not read and regurgitate USA Today for "my studies". I do not accept USA Today as a source of anything.

In the overwhelming majority of cases (iow, cases that don't involve any sort of rare genetic/chromosomal abnormalities), it is plain as day to tell between male and female. Even in such "rare abnormal" cases, it is usually quite easy to tell (the presence or non-presence of the SRY gene, for example).

So, in a simplistic sense, XX=female and XY=male ... This is a basic biological truth. Yes, there are some rare genetic/chromosomal conditions that have the potential to make this basic truth a bit more complicated in such extremely rare cases, but within the context of any "typical" situation (meaning, no genetic/chromosomal abnormalities), XX=female and XY=male.

Sybil; turning your refrigerator into a biology experiment doesn't necessarily make you a biologist. I bet you don't even take notes.
You're still obsessed with this Sybil person?? Hmmmmm...

But yes, I am a biologist, amongst numerous other things.

I'm psychologist among other things, Sybil. You already know my thoughts about the personalities of sock puppets. :)

You don't get to speak for all biologists, homegrown or not, Sybil, just because you read an article on Google.

Jackson: "I'm not a biologist." Too bad the Jackson-hating RWs think they are.

"[Rebecca]Jordan-Young, [a scientist and gender studies scholar at Barnard College whose work explores the relationships between science and the social hierarchies of gender and sexuality].said she sees Jackson's answer, particularly the second half, reflecting the necessity of nuance. While traditional notions of sex and gender suggest a simple binary – if you are born with a penis, you are male and identify as a man and if you are born with a vagina, you are female and identify as a woman – the reality, gender experts say, is more complex.

"There isn't one single 'biological' answer to the definition of a woman. There's not even a singular biological answer to the question of 'what is a female,'" Jordan-Young said.

There are at least six different biological markers of “sex” in the body: genitals, chromosomes, gonads, internal reproductive structures, hormone ratios and secondary sex characteristics. None of the six is strictly dichotomous, Jordan-Young said, and the different markers don’t always align.

Sarah Richardson, a Harvard scholar, historian and philosopher of biology who focuses on the sciences of sex and gender and their policy dimensions, said Jackson's answer accurately reflects legal practice. While U.S. law remains an unsettled arena for the conceptualization and definition of sex, it frequently grounds sex categorization in biological evidence and reasoning. But like Jordan-Young, Richardson emphasized that biology does not offer a simple or singular answer to the question of what defines a woman.

"As is so often the case, science cannot settle what are really social questions," she said. "In any particular case of sex categorization, whether in law or in science, it is necessary to build a definition of sex particular to context."

If she cannot define a woman how can we tell if she fits within the criteria set forth by Brandon to nominate her? Is she a woman? How can she tell? I mean, her parents told her that she is... Is that enough? Were they biologists? What if they were wrong?

Someone should ask Marsha Blackburn how a Home Economics degree qualifies for her to be a US Congress Woman!

Her work experience was limited to the only two non-political jobs she ever had- Selling Newspaper subscriptions, and working as a cashier at a Department store!

AND THEN- US CONGRESS woman!

She has no legal background or area of expertise, no law degree, and no Court Room experience in any way.

How does this qualify her to sit on a Justice Approval Committee?

FOR HEAVEN's FUCKING SAKE REPUBLICANS!

WTF?

DO YOU THINK THAT IS WHY SHE CAN ONLY ASK STUPID QUESTIONS AND SAY STUPID THINGS ON SENATE COMMITTEES?
