Swindon Honda closure date 'set in stone'

Honda will be closing its factory in Swindon in July next year, a date that has been "set in stone". 3500 good jobs lost, and at least as many in the supply chain.

In 2018 a senior Honda executive predicted that Brexit could interrupt crucial “just in time” delivery of 2m parts a day, 20% of which come from Europe and which allow smooth operation of the company’s supply chain.

He also warned that suppliers might have to fill out 60,000 customs declaration forms a year and pointed out that 20% of staff at Swindon were EU nationals. And he expressed concern about regulatory divergence that could force the company to carry out two differing sets of tests on vehicles.

It's clear that none of these risks have been in any way mitigated by this government's reckless policies.
