Burma

is as Confucious said...'Better to be pissed off than pissed on' get a grip already...things are not as they always seem! Enjoy the moment of false security for all...!

There is no false security, because there is no sense of being safe. When the monks are being held in the monastaries at gunpoint and death tolls aren't being revealed, I don't see how anyone would think they are safe.

addressed to the anti-war protestors...would this be a just war if US troops invaded Thailand and put a stop to this..akin to VN mind ya...not a trick question!
Well, I would hope they wouldn't invade Thailand to put a stop to this. That would be the wrong place.

The funny thing is, these retarded Republicans who backed the war with Iraq love to cite how they were 'fighting for freedom'. Well these Buddhists are crying out for freedom and if we were to help, they would definitly be greeting us with flowers and worshipping the ground we walked on. Instead, we free'd a bunch of people who would rather be secure than free, and hate us because we are on thier holy land. Not saying we should send military in, but if ever we were to make a case to fight for 'freedom' for someone else, this would be a solid one. And China... well they'll just veto anything when they have some sort of financial interest in a country. They are the ones that make the UN worthless. It's time to boycott the Olympics....

According to about half the republican reasons for Iraq we should be preparing to invade Burma right now!

No kidding. Every society that values democracy should be boycotting their Olympics. It is one of the times that we actually have strong leverage to effect them.

Hummm.........

Ohh Thailand are Mormons then ?

Who cares we have more millionaires every day.

Mormons...I don't think so...betta ask DD or Damo...they want us to bomb the Burma road again...such talk for pacifist..........only when the shoe is on the other foot then they become soldiers of fortune...

I agree with that, and also hit their corporate sponsers. Those games are going to have corporate sponsership.

Damo I have been on the phone and emailing literally all day, on and off of course. So far, I can't get anyone to sign on to sponser a demonstration. But, this was just announced, or as far as I know, I mean, I just saw it anyway:

International day of Action
Organiser: Burma Campaign UK
Date: Saturday 6th October
Time: 12 noon
Location: Worldwide
Info: more to follow

So now I am making the rounds again. These groups, you don't know, they are just like everybody else, they all have their own agendas, and I'm nobody. But I think the best bet is the Answer coalition. And I am going to keep trying, I mean, now we have a day.

This infuriated me today:

I'm going to see if I can counter it. I mean, yeah I know, but does that mean that we can't join the rest of the world on this? In England they have been getting out thousands of protesters on this, and in the Asian world even more. So now here, we can't do anything because we're killing people in Iraq? Wake up, I see it as all connected.

Right, but, the last thing we need to do is send in US troops to overthrow the junta, so that we can then install our own "Democratic" ally, maybe someone like Pinochet would suit us fine, and then we can rape and pillage the Burmese natural resources, no thanks.

They already have a democratically elected leader. There are countries there, even besides China, though China is key, who can pressure this situation to a good outcome, and a good outcome is the Junta gone, NO foreign occupation, and their elected leader released from prison and allowed to take her rightful position.

Wow, why are you even on this thread if you can't follow along. Only thing I've advocated was boycotting the 2008 Olympics in China. Apparently I want to bomb the people I want to help though, at least according to you. I just think it's funny that people like you are all for war when it doesn't help anyone, but when you at least have an argument you sit there and bother people who are heartbroken over the problems that are going on. Those Buddhists are the friendliest people you could ever meet, and to see people killing them during a peaceful demonstration is sickening. You're not creating any kind of beneficial dialog to this thread.

Thailand wants us to bomb the Burma road? What are you spouting? Their government is working to feed and support the protesters.

So far, all I have suggested is a full boycott of the Chinese Olympics. That is the same as bombing?

It was tongue in cheek...and not addressed to you!

I find it rather funny that when it comes to defending your choice of belief ...war is cool(hot or cold)...only when it is of no concern to you it is wrong...I would fight for the Buddhists as well as for the Iraqis or the Iranians...I do not differntiate on beliefes...just what is right!

But there is no hypocrisy! That's why I don't see you as adding beneficial dialog, we aren't asking for bombs, or any kind of war. We would like to see China, India, and Russia put some pressure on the Myanmar regime. Other than boycotting the Chinese olympics, I see no other way to work towards the goal of democracy for the Burmese people as a country. The Buddhists in that country would not want a war either, they want regime change towards a democratically elected leader, they cry for democracy but are not violent. I would not support a war with Myanmar either. Many of their soldiers are kidnapped as children and turned into soldiers. With a weak central government, it would be quite easy to turn these soldiers against the government and get them to drop their weapons. But they fear the consequences if they do that now.

One more time, boycotting the Chinese Olympics isn't war. And if we declare war then 'war is cool'.

I find it funny how you have to twist and misrepresent my position to come up with inanities like this one.
