California does not have enough power in the state right now. Rolling blackouts. They have no plans to build new power plants. Environmentalists will not let them. One just cannot make this shit up. California's Governor is a fucking idiot.

California will phase out the sale of all gasoline-powered vehicles by 2035 in a bid to lead the U.S. in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by encouraging the state's drivers to switch to electric cars.

Gov. Gavin Newsom signed an executive order Wednesday that amounts to the most aggressive clean-car policy in the United States. Although it bans the sale of new gas cars and trucks after the 15-year deadline, it will still allow such vehicles to be owned and sold on the used-car market.

"This is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change," the governor said in a statement.

"Our cars shouldn't make wildfires worse — and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn't melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines."

Newsom, a Democrat, also threw his support behind a ban on petroleum fracking but called on the California Legislature to make that change.

Buying new vehicles is foolish financially, anyway. No other major purchase loses more value over a short period.

However, I'd look for a corporate fleet off-lease vehicle if IO were you.
 
The next step will be a royal decree that all gas and diesel cars and trucks registered in the state will get a special hefty yearly tax, in order to force them to be sold out of state.
 
The state is pushing us where the rightuys refuse to go. It is way past time to elctrify transportation. Pollution is a terrible problem that is slowly poisoning the globe.

California does not have the power Nordberg. Hence the rolling blackouts. They are refusing to build more power plants. And ah, guess what happens when the power lines burn down in wildfires? No one is against electric vehicles Nordberg. The left needs to get it through their heads we do not have the infrastructure nor power capacity to do that. Yet.

Even with the Tech Overlords imposing vast censorship regimes it is still currently mostly possible to keep track of what is going on. The program of the Lefty Authoritarians to get rid of gas and diesel cars and trucks has been clear for a couple of years now.

Same concept. Well maintained, low milage.
I dont buy new cars for that reason, neither did my dad. Saved a lot of money.
But this is Cali so it will never apply to me.
 
The get around this would be for some company to start doing what the truck industry is already doing... Glider "cars." That is a completely new car with a rebuilt old engine in it. If Newsome's diktat follows previous California law on this, it's the engine that matters, not the age of the vehicle.

They already do this with commercial trucks. Take a brand new truck without an engine and put an old but completely remanufactured and good as new engine in it. That makes it emissions complaint for the year of the engine, not the truck and legal. It's a work around to idiot environmental laws.

You can go solar at home . Then no power plant needed. The fact is if we create a problem, someone will step in to fix it.

Folks like you concern me. Do you have any idea how many panels it would take and how long it would take to charge a car? Of course not. No starry eyed Democrat or liberal does. They do not understand the basics let alone any advanced concepts.
 
I wonder if Newsome's order applies to things that are not passenger cars like SUV's and light trucks. If so, expect a lot of Californians to start buying those...
