Civil War museum gets rid of Confederate flag on new logo

But it's not about free speech, you said yourself it's about slavery.

So you are saying that all that trash flying the Confederate Flag today are doing so to remind everyone the flag represents slavery?

It doesn't matter, the rainbow flag is about queerness, but I don't run out and demand it taken down, let your freak flag fly! People today fly it because you make a big deal about it and to be controversial

That would be stupid. We should also eliminate any mention of Nazis and Germans in the Holocaust and WWII museums and battlefields (and Japan, Italy,....). After all, we all remember who won without mentioning the enemy.

So you're arguing that the Confederate Flag "mentions" the traitors who lost the war? I don't understand what you're saying. The difference is, how do the flag and monuments to Confederates mention anything about what they stood for and what they fought for? They're just participation trophies, aren't they?

The only context of the Confederate Flag is that it is a tool used to intimidate the descendants of those whose freedoms were won in that war that the Confederates lost.

Why glorify war or killing--ban all monument to war and soldiers.

Now that is lazy sophistry.

Why do losers need monuments?

Using your logic we should ban the Articles of Secession because they glorify slavery and going to war to save it.

That's not using my logic; that's exercising lazy sophistry.

You argue that those monuments and flags "teach history", but you struggle to say exactly what lessons they teach...then you ignore the only context for which those things exist while playing a slippery slope game of play-acting dumb.

The reason the Articles of Secession are important and teach history is because they literally say what it was the people who fought under those flags and to whom memorials were erected were fighting for. Where is that context in the monuments and flags? How does the Confederate Flag explain what the Confederates were actually fighting for?

And if it wasn't a tool for racists used to intimidate people, why do European racists wave the Confederate Flag about?

The history Nazis need to protect us from such knowledge.

What knowledge is served by monuments and flags that glorify people who were traitors and who thought black people should be slaves? What do those monuments and flags actually teach? You haven't said because you can't, because they don't teach anything. They're tools and virtue signals for racists and traitors.

A good history would include all of them. Primary sources like the Articles of Confederation are very good, but read by themselves without additional history they give the impression the North was fighting to end slavery

So you're saying the Confederate Flag is a secondary source of history? How so? What history is being taught by waving the Confederate flag about, or erecting monuments to the traitors who lost it?

It also makes it appear states were united over this issue and ignores variations in the states. For example, Sam Houston was elected governor of Texas in 1859 and campaigned around the state in 1860 opposing secession. He refused to swear an oath to the Confederacy. Some counties voted against secession.

Le sigh...Texas literally wrote in their Articles of Secession that they think white people are superior to blacks and that they're seceding because of slavery.

So where on the Confederate Flag design, or where on any of the monuments erected to those losers, does it say any of that?

How does the Confederate Flag or the monuments to the traitors serve what they say in the Articles of Secession that I just linked to?

Some counties voted against secession.

BoThSiDeRiSm at its worst.

Also, why is this an argument for the Confederate Flag and monuments?

Selective history is often misleading and designed to fit partisan prejudices.

Which you just did when you tried to make the case for Confederate monuments by saying some counties opposed secession. Cognitive dissonance there, Flash. If some counties voted against secession, how does that lesson get taught by a monument to someone who fought for secession, or a flag that those same traitors fought under?

we are one

we will rid ourselves of this racist scourge

And just how do you erase history? Let me guess a time machine you go back and stop the civil war from ever happening? Oh wait prevent slavery world wide then no way.

Only an idiot believes they can undo something that already happened.

BS. It was referring to fascist behavior which can be characteristic of any religious group.

You called me a Nazi.

Yet, you're the one defending monuments and flags to traitors who thought white Christians were superior and that black people are of lesser race that should be subjugated.

I was speaking of the museum, what other people do is none of my business

The museum's LOGO is what is at stake here.

You're insulted by the museum dropping the flag of treason from their logo because it erases history somehow, even though the museum is probably chock full of those dumb flags.

It doesn't matter, the rainbow flag is about queerness, but I don't run out and demand it taken down, let your freak flag fly! People today fly it because you make a big deal about it and to be controversial

So you equate slavery with LGBTQ?
