Confederate Statues

Taking down the Silent Sam statue has been something that has been tried for decades.

Just because you never paid attention to it, didn't mean it never happened.

Get over yourself.

When you fail, triggered pussies resort to crime.

We're not trying to make the history of the Civil War go away.

What we're doing is making the glorification of the losers go away.

Don't worry - everyone will still remember the South lost the war.

Everyone will still remember blacks were slaves and that their descendants, none of whom were slaves, still make excuses of how slavery is why they're so far behind others and demands for reparations paid by whites that never owned slaves.

That depends entirely on how the commission is staffed. If it consists of, say, the top 50 historians in America, as selected by tenured history professors, that would be relatively apolitical. If it consists of whatever hacks the governor of NC wants to appoint, that's entirely political.

If that were about his service as a president of a college, after the war, I could be OK with it. If it's about his service to a white supremacist rebellion that resulted in the deaths of countless American soldiers, I'd consider that inappropriate. Our troops fought and died beating the Confederacy. It's an insult to them for the man responsible for so many of their deaths to be honored. It's also a little weird to honor someone for getting his army's ass kicked that way.

You mean tenured history professors that have a propensity to be left leaning?

The problem with what you suggest is that unless you and snowflakes like you approve of the 50, you'll use the excuse of it being political. That's how you lefties operate. If the results don't work in your favor, your first, last, and only thought is that it was a faulty process. You can't accept being told no or not getting it your way.

These stupid statues aren't even civil war heritage. So all you statue lovers want your heritage to be, monuments of southerners pissing, and moaning about not wanting to follow civil rights? Do the kids get a down with baths statue, to go right beside another show of petulant whining. How about you keep the statues, and just carve a water feature into it, so the statue can cry tears of defiance like all the other willful retards.

Which is why I don't think it will work -- Confederates and compromises don't pan out well

You mean like the compromise related to the Confederate battle flag flying over the SC Statehouse? That compromise involved placing it on Statehouse grounds. The moment that happened, the side that opposed it being on the Statehouse but that had agreed to the grounds location immediately started pushing for it's removal.

At least you admit you approve of criminal acts because you're a snowflake scared of an inanimate object.

What does this have to do with you forgetting who lost the Civil War if a monument is removed?

We need to stop destroying history when we should be inspiring others to write their own.

How is history "destroyed" by removing a monument to someone who lost?

Do you need statues to Robert E. Lee to help you remember he was a traitor who lost?

The statues were erected to stand as monuments to white supremacy and slavery. Tearing them down simply tears down the convention that slavery and white supremacy have virtue.

Well, the statue being torn down does change that the statue's presence isn't there, and thus, all the shitty things that statue embodies and represents aren't there either.

So what do you think should go up it its place? A statue of an even worse racist like Malcom Little?

Why won't someone think of the poor, underachieving racists who need these participation trophies to feel better?

I don't know anyone alive today that participated in slavery. There are millions who are descendants of slaves, although never having been slaves themselves, that still blame it for their failures while demanding whites that never owned slaves pay reparations for it.

So you'd be ok with placing statues of Black Civil Right's Leaders right next to them?

After all, they did change something in both history and our present.

As a matter of fact that would be a great idea to show how the country has changed.

That's your claim but you tend to be biased.

Vandals tearing them down is a crime. Apparently that represents the disproportionately high level of black crime that exist today. 13% of the population yet commit 55% of the violent crimes.

It's heritage. The Taliban probably looked at the Buddhas of Bamiyan with the same hatred you do confederate statues, and they blew them up. But in so doing they destroyed cultural relics that are lost forever.

Statues to treason should never been put up.
Only a statue of RE Lee being hanged should have been allowed.
Lee should of been hanged, bigger enemy than Benedict Arnold!

Your opinion is the only one that matters. So if the laws pertaining to the statues are contrary to your opinion, you tear them down.

Got it.
