As far as I know, the SS is not required to ban guns by the Code. They are authorized to do so, but I don't see a requirement. Do you?

So when LaPierre spoke against gun free zones, there was no reason for a gun free zone?

If you can produce some evidence that the cons asked the SS to allow guns, produce it.

In Maryland, adults may openly carry long guns in public without a permit. However, you must obtain a permit to carry a handgun (openly or concealed) on or near your body, or on property you own or lease. (Md. Ann. Code § 5-303.)

So you support Marriott's gun policy?

If gun free zones don't work and just attract shooters who know the occupants are defenseless, aren't cons risking lives by allowing these types of things?

I don't agree with it, but as a private entity, I agree with their right to have that policy. You see, I believe that a private entity should have the right to freely associate or not associate with anyone they choose.

No. Marriott's gun policy is no moe an infringement on gun rights than Damo banning someone from his forum is a violation of someone's first amendment rights.

Despite others interpretation it is my belief that the US Constitution was solely meant to apply to the federal government and not individual states or private individuals. Other's obviously take another position. And that is ok

And just because the SS has the authority to preclude firearms, they don't have to exercise it.

Maybe Trump - the strong leader who says gun-free zones are "bait" - should stand up for the gun rights of his supporters and ask them to allow them to open carry.

If the arena won't allow it (and since when has a con pretended that a gun-free policy is a deterrent) Trump should demand that it be rescinded or move the convention to a Trump-owned facility.

even if they have no control over the mandates of the SS or the Marriot......
