Wife and I had second vaccine this week. Hopefully you all stay alive and safe for I'd miss your deep thoughts otherwise. Get the vaccine.

My wife and I have had second Pfizer shot. Slight reaction but not much, seems to depend on individual but overall including friends and our large extended family, no real issues and others have had Moderna and Johnson vaccines. So all is good and hopefully this is a one time vaccine like polio. I'm not big on vaccines today. The live Shingles caused several issues for instance. In the military they shot you with all sort of vacs with guns yet. The vets will remember that. And guess what, back then no one said no. Today Americans seem to have gotten dumber and more easily led! Why is that?

This article is long and interesting, it points to the Wuhan lab as the source but stops short of certainty. In a sense it doesn't really matter for we humans now need to deal with it in an intelligent manner. That is the problem with Trump and his denial of reality. The author notes he could still be wrong. It is a complex piece check it out below.

"By the end of this article, you may have learned a lot about the molecular biology of viruses. I will try to keep this process as painless as possible. But the science cannot be avoided because for now, and probably for a long time hence, it offers the only sure thread through the maze."

I hope that this question can be resolved but it doesn't matter today as we need to face the reality of this virus and work to cure and prevent it now. Talk and finger pointing are no help.

"What is the main theory on the virus’s origin? The coronavirus at the center of the global pandemic is known by the scientific name SARS-CoV-2.

Before it spread across the world, causing the potentially deadly illness known as covid-19, the closest relative was a virus known as SARS-CoV RaTG13 that was found in bats in caves in the Chinese province of Yunnan, more than 1,000 miles away from Wuhan."

A hard question is whether Americans were dumb before Trump or did Trump just bring out the dumbness? Conspiracy nonsense and anti-science now controls the dummies. How did that happen?

And are Fox OAN and Newsmax guilty too as their downplaying the virus hurt Americans? Read 'Hoax' Donald Trump, Fox News, and the Dangerous Distortion of Truth' by Brian Stelter. He covers their distortions and the consequences.

"Forty-two states saw an increase in COVID-19 cases last week from the week before, a sign that the pandemic is not yet over in the United States.

Only Alaska, Delaware, Iowa, Maine, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota and West Virginia saw a decline in cases from the previous week over the seven-day period that ended Saturday.

The rate of vaccinations has slowed, and less than half of all Americans, 47.9%, are fully vaccinated, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention."

Alvin Toffler's 1970 book "Future Shock" was the first to touch on what we are seeing 50 years later. Notice the ages of the Qless; most are in their 40-50s. As the quote below notes, the US is evolving into a "super-industrial society". As the US saw with the advent of the automobile, all of the buggy whip manufacturer workers who don't adapt are left behind...clueless and broke just like todays Qless. They want the US to return to an industrial society with them making good money making jeans and sports shoes instead of moving forward into higher tech jobs.

Future shock
Alvin Toffler argued that society is undergoing an enormous structural change, a revolution from an industrial society to a "super-industrial society". This change overwhelms people. He argues that the accelerated rate of technological and social change leaves people disconnected and suffering from "shattering stress and disorientation"—future shocked. Toffler stated that the majority of social problems are symptoms of future shock. In his discussion of the components of such shock he popularized the term "information overload."

This analysis of the phenomenon of information overload is continued in later publications, especially The Third Wave and Powershift.

In the introduction to an essay entitled "Future Shock" in his book, Conscientious Objections, Neil Postman wrote:

"Sometime about the middle of 1963, my colleague Charles Weingartner and I delivered in tandem an address to the National Council of Teachers of English. In that address we used the phrase "future shock" as a way of describing the social paralysis induced by rapid technological change. To my knowledge, Weingartner and I were the first people ever to use it in a public forum. Of course, neither Weingartner nor I had the brains to write a book called Future Shock, and all due credit goes to Alvin Toffler for having recognized a good phrase when one came along" (p. 162).

Anti-vax people owe a lifetime debt of gratitude to those who get properly vaccinated, because without vaccinations these diseases would be out of control, causing rampant misery and death.

Merck says experimental COVID-19 pill cut deaths, hospitalizations in half when given early

October 1, 2021 / 7:00 AM / CBS/AP

"Washington — Merck & Co. said Friday that its experimental COVID-19 pill reduced hospitalizations and deaths by half in people recently infected with the coronavirus and that it would soon ask health officials in the U.S. and around the world to authorize its use.

If cleared, Merck's drug would be the first pill shown to treat COVID-19 — a potentially major advance in efforts to fight the pandemic. All COVID-19 therapies now authorized in the U.S. require an IV or injection.

Merck and its partner, Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, said early results showed patients who received the drug, called molnupiravir, within five days of COVID-19 symptoms had about half the rate of hospitalization and deaths as patients who received a dummy pill. The study tracked 775 adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who were considered at higher risk for severe disease due to health problems such as obesity, diabetes or heart disease.

Among patients taking molnupiravir, 7.3% were either hospitalized or died at the end of 30 days, compared with 14.1% of those getting the dummy pill. There were no deaths in the drug group after that time period compared with eight deaths in the placebo group, according to Merck.

The results were released by the company and have not been peer reviewed. Merck said it plans to present them at a future medical meeting.

The Wall Street Journal says a government green light could mean people could take molnupiravir at home to try prevent hospitalization, adding that it's "on track to potentially be authorized by the end of the year." "

The flu mutates just as Covid has, but for those of us old enough to remember polio, vaccines are a miracle. For the reader who wants to know, read book linked below. Neither my wife nor I have ever had the flu, we do not get the flu vaccine. But this virus is different. Book covers flu too and lots of other viruses. Read it if you want to know.
