No, he was never accused of rape, but certainly you are not just now realizing posters will say anything to win points against the other side and be tacky, hostile, and hateful.
It is like the crazy claims Obama was born in Kenya and a Muslim or Dr. Ford was being paid to lie. People will say anything--sadly, they believe a lot of it.

He was never accused of anything until he tried for the Supremes. then his background was checked. Ford had experience with him and wanted to tell all. Not rape, but perhaps attempted rape. At a minimum violent abuse of a woman.
Ford had a comfortable college position . She has much to lose and nothing to gain.
I know not many accusations are false, but that is because prosecutors choose to prosecute those cases with good evidence that can get a jury conviction beyond a reasonable doubt.
When there is no evidence it makes a much more questionable case. If there had been no statute of limitations I seriously doubt the DA would have pursued this case.
Even DNA can be questionable. I know of a case where a woman regularly bought gas near where she worked and got to know the two men who worked at the station. She accused them of rape and they went to prison. They later did a DNA test and found semen stains on her painties did not belong to either man and they were released. Since she knew the men well she was sure they were the rapists. It turned out she had sex with her boyfriend earlier that day and the DNA that did not match belonged to her boyfriend.
I recently learned that a twin that dies in the womb can be absorbed by the other (non-identical) twin and can have two different sets of DNA depending on where they take the sample. I forgot what it is called.

Many people wanted to speak to the FBI about his way overboard drinking and disrespect for women. trumps people did not allow that. Why not? must be a reason and it isn't good. His regular activities would have shown his tendencies and made her story more likely and more believable.

The defendant comes to court with EVIDENCE to retract plaintiffs allegations.

He allegedly assaulted Ford...and I never saw a credible allegation that he raped anyone.
My objection to him is that I suspect he is a liar on the issue of the Ford assault...
...and that the allegations should have been thoroughly investigated.

I suspect this is the way this will go.
A reporter or several WILL follow up on this. They are not going to look for PROOF that the assault took place. There will never be proof unless Kavanaugh or Judge acknowledge that it happened.
But there may be evidence that shows one story is more likely than the other.
I WOULD LOVE TO HAVE SEEN KAVANAUGH QUESTIONED BY THE FBI. There is no way the FBI would have accepted the non-answer, evasive nonsense Kavanaugh offered to the committee.

None of these allegations should have been made public.
First, the statute of limitations was long past.
Second, any investigation should have been handled by local authorities.
Third (see First), IF there was to be an investigation, these allegations
should have been immediately brought to the judicial committee alone for
evaluation. Face it, the Dems turned this into an unneeded public circus.
The charges were reasonably brought forth. The reason they were not made public earlier was reasonably explained.
The charges should have been investigated thoroughly by the FBI. The person being charged was being vetted for a seat on the SCOTUS.
