Dark day for SCOTUS

But he went on to say, the Court has a responsibility to ensure states are staying within the constitutional lines in case future electoral outcomes *are* affected by state election law shenanigans.

Thomas was basically saying the Court was derelict in its duty and he’s right. Whether it affected the outcome is irrelevant. What’s relevant is *the point of law* that is at question.

But since the Court ruled it a moot question, this sends a clear signal to the states that they can play loose with their election ‘laws’ in the future. Democrats hear them loud and clear. Republicans would do well to get on board with it or just keep losing elections.

Our republic may be F*d but hey, the Court cleared the way for NY to take a peak at Trump’s tax returns. So they did accomplish something yesterday. The day wasn’t a total loss.

What a great day for our [banana] republic!

Thomas' dissent was shameful. He showed that he is mired in the conspiracy-think of the Big Lie.

And what's the big deal about the tax returns? Trump always said he'd release them once that endless audit was over.

There is a reason he didn't want anyone to see them. We'll know soon enough.

Since when is it anyone’s authority to see an individual’s tax return ‘just cuz’? Besides, there’s this wonderful invention called the IRS and if they see anything illegal they’ve been to known to prosecute. It’s nothing but a fishing expedition and an extension of the witch hunt.

And it’s a big reason I don’t want Trump to run again. The TDS-driven democrats and Trump haters will never relent. It would be one *faux* distraction after the next if Trump got a second term.

Maybe you're not aware, but every Presidential candidate in modern history has released their tax returns. Trump promised he would, as well. It's not "just cuz."

What is Trump afraid of?

Trump will probably run again. The party had a chance to move on from him, but they decided to stay down the rabbit hole. He's already done so much damage to the GOP - but he's not done yet.

whether he promised to release or not -they are confidential if Trump chooses to keep them that way
NY is going on a fishing expedition solely by word of the criminal Cohen

your comment is literally one of the dumbest comments ever made on the internet

How many ways does the election have to be proven fair before trumpies can understand it? https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/its-official-election-was-secure The courts have done their jobs and certified the Biden victory. The reds had 60 court cases and lost them all. Oh, but 61 , that's the one that will change it all.

Until Trump himself admits it was a lie, which will never happen, they will never believe it was a fair and honest election

Hello Darth,

This is a stain on the court.

They won’t even look at the evidence because the issue is ‘moot’? Moot to who? Even if there’s a scant possibility that illegal votes were cast in a national election the issue is not ‘moot’.

But apparently there ‘are more pressing concerns’ for the country, like clearing the road for a peak at Trump’s tax returns.

I’m literally embarrassed for this court.

There is an element of irony involved in that this is the court packed with 3 Trump nominations.

I’m sorry, but even Donald Trump has the right to not release his tax returns.

Wouldn’t even look at the evidence because it’s ‘moot’.

Thomas wrote a good dissent about how the court refusing to intervene will come back and haunt the country in future elections.

In his dissent, Thomas admitted even if the case was valid and proven, the amount of votes would not have been enough to overturn the election. Suck on it!

the fact there were votes that were illegal calls for an investigation no matter what... why are democrats suddenly afraid of investigations?

I am not against an investigation, and Thomas did not say the votes were illegal. Thomas, the only dissent, said he would like to Court to have looked into if they were illegal, he was the only one of the 9 judges.

You should be sorry. Congress has a right to see them and so do courts. Presidential candidates have released theirs for 50 years, with one exception, Trump. The assumption was a candidate's taxes would tell voters what kind of person he is and who he has business deals with. It was not a law. There were no penalties. So Trump refused. He has that right in politics, but not in court. Not in congress either.
You can also assume Trump had something to hide. That is a logical conclusion. It is not necessarily a fact.
