Nobody is denying the existence of covid. They simply realize that it isn't any worse than a flu.
You are as far out in right field as any. What you have convinced yourself of is stunning. I know if people have a predilection to something they can lean the data a bit. You reverse it or erase it. You just deny it.

The fact that he was furloughed when the pandemic began says that whatever his job was there, it was 1) non-essential, and 2) something that could not be done remotely, like administration type work. He reminds me a lot of a girl in my nursing class. She was ~20 or so, and worked as a tech (what used to be called a nursing assistant) at one of the larger hospitals in STL. She would constantly interrupt the instructor (a woman in her 60s with a masters in nursing) to declare, "As you know, *I* work at St. John's and WE always ____" to contradict her. The prof would just roll her eyes at first, but eventually told her to stop speaking out w/o raising her hand first. lol

I can't say for sure about them, but it sounds plausible. The one that I recall most clearly has a burning need to be seen as an expert in health, legal, political, and spiritual matters -- rather than as a failed "bunny girl" who struggled to make it out of high school.

Agreed. It's one thing to disagree with a rational but uneducated person. It's another to try to have a rational discussion with an irrational person. It doesn't work because irrational people cannot fix themselves. They need medical help.

Agreed on doing an honest job. OTOH, a lot of those jobs are entry level, not career jobs. If an old man is seen mopping the floor at the entrance, it's honest work. If that same man goes online and claims to be a medical expert on Pandemics because he's been in the "healthcare field" for 30 years, that's a deceitful action, if not irrational. Such claims are dishonest.
Secondly, even though it's honest work, if the best job a person could find employment for 30 years were minimum wage jobs, that says something about the person. Usually it involves less than average mental acuity since sharper people could educate themselves and find a better job or advance to the top of their department. Managers, even managers of janitors, can do very well for themselves.

Clearly Sister Stretch's cheese has slid off her cracker. Notice the underlying fear in her recommendations, the desperation to avoid catching a disease that mostly kills the elderly. If it doesn't kill them, it leaves lasting lung damage that may permanently leave them bedridden.
