Death Penaly for Accused Soldiers?

How would you simply do it Damo ? We live in a quasi democracy after all and have spent many many years convincing the people that anyone who uses "drugs" should be locked up. How can we quickly convince them otherwise ?

The statement was about what I thought should happen, not what I believed was going to happen. What is it about today that makes you think every post of mine is a prediction. Sometimes I am just posting my opinion.

Anyway by voting in a legislature that will vote a change in the laws. That is how we could simply do it. This magic "20 years" thing is just that. If the law became unpopular enough it would be changed.
 
Even if it was going to take 20 years to make the change the change is worth working towards, both for personal freedom and because it is a logical goal.
 
How long did prohibition stay in effect ? And that is alcohol, not GASP! drugs...
Some areas of the country and my state still allow no alcohol sales.

Regardless it ended. Let's not pretend our prisons are filled with those illegally making alcohol...

This too can end, and just as quickly with a change in the law.

again I hope you are right and I am wrong. But hisotry seems to be on my side unfortuantely, and we don't seem to learn to well from history. I expect the first step to be a greatly expanded ankle bracelet home confinement movement to save prison money.

I didn't "predict" this, I said it was possible. If the law became unpopular enough it would change because we would vote for people that would change it. Do I think that enough people think like me that it is going to happen. Of course not.... If enough did there would be a Libertarian President right now.
 
Opinion or prediction pretty much the same for me. I try and make my opinion be as close to the way I think it will turn out as I can.

Well if you insist. I hope your OPINIONS turn out to be right and mine wrong on this.
 
lol. I don't change my opinion to reflect what I think things will be. I believe in what I do because I think it is right.
 
but I have an opinion about how things will be, why is that confused with a prediction. Well actually it is a prediction of a sorts, without coming out and saying it is a prediction.
I have an opinion that legalizing/decriminalizing drugs will take a long time. My opinion is also that many illegal drugs should be decriminalized.
Predictions are merly opinions of how things will turn out.

I think that what Damo's saying is that this is independent of an opinion about what should happen, or even what could happen under some circumstances.

They are, but not all opinion is Prediction.

Some is speculation. "I think it would be better if..." that is not a Prediction, it is speculation and an opinion. Hence when I speak of how we could empty our prisons and make them more cost effective I speculate. I did not say, "Well, this is what is going to happen." When I speak of my views on the Death Penalty it is what I believe to be right, not what I expect to be done. So forth.

Each Prediction is an opinion, but not all opinion is Predictive.

Agreed Damo, but opinionating on what can possibly happen is a speculative prediction ?
 
If you give an opinion stating a time frame for an event to happen no matter how vague the time frame it is a prediction.

No it isn't. Saying that something is possible is not the same as saying something is probable.

I can say that it is possible that the God of the Bible really is the one and only God without making it predictive.

Only if I state that I think it will happen. Stating it could be possible for something is, once again, not stating that it is probable.

Especially when using language like (I used this in a different thread) "Were I President"... That is certainly no prediction and all opinion following is not predictive but speculative.

But predictions are not necessarially probable either. Prophecy is listed with prediction in the dictionary.
