Dexter

I think the Wall Street Journal put it best:

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB115949032468577451.html?mod=2_1168_1

"The grotesqueries of "Dexter" are not something that can easily be dismissed with the old "you don't have to watch" line. We don't have to watch. We do have to live among the viewers who will be desensitized, or aroused, by this show."

I hope you are not serious.

First of all the show is not something that is going to desensitize or arouse anyone. It's much more complex than, man with no conscience kills. If it weren't much more complex than that, it wouldn't be so good. Some of the best parts are scenes where you see this man who is by no measure normal, trying to figure out his "normal" coworkers. He has to study normalcy so he can appear normal. But many of the things he is watching the normal people do, are totally not normal! It's darkly ironic and makes me laugh. There's a lot more.

Second of all; who gives a flying fuck what some "family values" con at the WSJ has to say? No doubt he supported the war, all wars, any war. They all do.

Let's get all excited over a fictional character while we cheer on mass murder in real life. Then we can all be Republicans!

I watch Weeds on showtime (I know big shocker) and entourage.
Comedies 2 1/2 men and how I met your mother

Ahh the story of my life :clink:

I am supposed to go partially insane every time a pro sports game is on or the Daytona 500?
I will just stay abbienermal.

Yes exactly! One of the funniest scenes is one where Dexter is looking at pictures of a serial killer he has his sights set on, and he has a porn site that he can click really quickly to. Because it's "normal" for a man to be at work looking at violent scenes of degredation towards women. So this guy who is watching him because he thinks he's weird, walks in, and Dexter clicks really quickly to change his screen to the porn. And he says, "just looking at some porn"

So the normal guys says, no you're not! You haven't checked out a porn site or porn film in ten years, I've looked at your record, Freak!

I mean, that's great stuff.

Again, that's just too stupid and such a huge generalization of what sociopathy really is that I couldn't watch it. Truth is, a sociopath can tell perfectly well the difference between normal and not normal, they just aren't emotionally punished for choosing the wrong path. And the idea that you could get one to obey a set of rules, or that they all naturally kill, is also laughable. If they did, 5% or more of our population would be serial killers. It's impossible for any non-conservative to suspend disbelief.

Again, you're a complete and total conservative for watching this show.

You are emo-ing all over my board again. Watch the first episode, then tell me what you think rather than reading an editorial from somebody else who hasn't watched the show.

Well really I heard about the concept and was just like:

"That's just some dumb right-wingers vigilante wet-dream."

It's not a conservative show. The very few, only a couple, of political comments made on the show, definitely were not right wing. It's not a political show though. It has nothing to do with any right wing fantasy. One of the things I think it brings people to ponder is; is it right to take a life to save the life of an innocent? And that's something that people have been debating and philosophizing over for an eternity. And nobody cares what the rabid right thinks about any of those things.

how about you watch the fucking show before judging it?

Dexter is much more than a guy going out killing people all the time. It's about a sociopath struggling to make sense of the world around him and maintain these fake emotional bonds with the people closest to him in order to have a more normal life.

I think it's right if there's no other choice. But there's really no better way to determine guilt or innocence than a fair trial, and once that's done killing is unnecessary.

Again, mostly I have been like "WTF!? LadyT, Grind, and Darla watching right-wing violence porn?! How can this be possible!?"

I should use more deductive reasoning in the future. :(
