more generalization and assumption. I think a majority of people are, or can be, decent, upright, caring and benevolent people...........but there are evil and predatory in the world......they can be anywhere and it's much better to be prepared than remain ignorant.
removing guns from the equation would only raise the crime rate in other areas, as we've seen in England and Australia.
The question you should be asking yourself is this, Do you now, can you now, and from this point forward trust government entities at all levels completely to both protect you as well as to not oppress you and deny you and your family your rights?

Well, I don't read as many threads here as you do, nor do I spend as much time to do so .... so you would know more than I about "...the dozens of posts elsewhere on JPP..."than I. Also, I periodically put many of the jokers you have flame wars with on the ignore list, so that would increase the level of things I don't see or miss.
This image stands out to me as the closest thing to guys beating each other off. Never saw that here before....weird and distasteful to me, but funny and provocative to others. As the old saying goes, there's no accounting for taste.

Over 800,000 cars are stolen every year. Cars are deadly weapons as both James Fields, the Nice terrorists and over 35,000 auto fatalities prove every year. Why not ban private ownership of cars and mandate public transportation? "Leave them to the professionals"?
Additionally, there are about 46,000 suicides each year in the US. Why do the gun banners only care about the 23,000 that use a gun?
IMO, the reason Democrats seek to impose gun control is more about social control, not saving lives.
