They're unreliable due to medical conditions and anything that complicates logistics is understandably a huge issue in military matters.

BTW, your attempt an equivalency is off. First of all, if they were cheerleaders like they are soldiers, they would wear the proper cheerleading outfit when they were cheerleading.
And yes, they would have to enroll and try out. The trans people in the military had to enlist and go through Basic Training/Boot Camp.
The Military is a venue were the soldiers often need to share toilets and showers with other same sex people, because there isn't room for facilities for more than two flavors. Often, there is just one, so the women are given a time slot for their business.
The impact on moral and unit cohesion with Trans-people thrown into the mix, is often severe.
Oh, there are probably some military units, where there is plenty of facilities, with private, single person showers and toilets. But one of the major features of military service is that you need to be world-wide deploy-able on short notice to locations with very limited, war-zone, facilities only.
Trans-activists, the flamers, are even more of a problem, because everyone who is not Trans, is walking around on eggshells, lest they offend, and then end up on harassment charges.
Everyone who has served, knew all this on the first day they started in with the Open-Trans-People in the services.
All that said, this will hurt the military in that some 15K people who were invested with training, will now be gone, and new recruits will have to be trained to replace them.
It will take years to repair the damage.
