Dried Fruit "Added Sugars" Down The Drain!

Hello ThatOwlWoman,

We eat far, far too much of it in this country, that's for sure.

Well, that's because of too much capitalism. The goal of our food supply system is to make money, not to provide the best food.

That's why I took up organic gardening. My whole focus of gardening has changed. Now, if it doesn't produce food, I don't want it in my yard.

I'm surprised the medical profiteers don't provide more support for unhealthy foods. It makes more business for them.

But it's not needed. So much unhealthy food is sold in America, we are one of the unhealthiest populations on the planet. We don't live as long as people do in smarter nations with more socialism, more awareness of healthy habits and a better safety net.

America is generally a fat nation. One of the most obese populations and the advent of child diabetes. That's part of why our health care costs so much. It's because we get so sick.

Hello Miss Margot Frank,

Wrong,Sugar is sugar!
Your liver will make all the glucose your body needs!

Well, if you tried to avoid sugar then don't eat any fruit. Most of it has sugar.

And that seems silly. Fruit makes unique compounds that are great for your immunity system. All the different fruits and their different colors represent very good things for you, especially in the skins of raw fruits. You should try to eat a rainbow of colors of fruit every day, I once heard a nutritionist say.

No problem there. I have no dietary restrictions other than those I self-impose. I try to limit processed foods where possible.

And these days, I have given up eating out.

A lot more chance of exposure to corona virus if eating out than dining in.

Of course, this puts you in grocery stores, so for that I try to go at non-peak times and really stock up each time, making fewer trips.

We've got no leadership, so you have to figure these things out for yourself.

What do you think of using honey as a sweetener? I like a half tsp or so in a cup of tea sometimes.

I stay away from honey too.

It's still added sugar.

Of course, I substitute it with artificially sweetened products, so that's not great either.

But I think it's still better than sugar.

It's not to difficult to use a dehydrator....less work than your rinsing method;)

Takes longer and it's still just another thing to have to think about.

Besides, I was talking about rinsing canned vegetables, not fruit.

Canned vegetables? Yuck;)
It's not that much extra time....if you like tasty nutritious food, why not invest a bit more "time" ?;)

But fruit has fiber which reduces net carbs and it has nutritional value which sugar doesn't.
Very little. And the nuts in Snickers have nutritional value but is negated by the sugar.

I don't really buy the "net carbs" thing. Carbs convert directly into sugar.

If I use artificial sweeteners, I try to stick to Stevia or Monkfruit

Sugar has the same effect on your blood glucose whether it comes from a peach or a Snickers bar.....

Exactly, and fresh fruit is certainly not poison. Although, in The wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan, which I'm currently re-reading for the third or fourth time, they have a saying, "as sure as peaches are poison". Lol.
