Fluke for Congress

Democratic attorney and activist Sandra Fluke has decided against running for retiring Rep. Henry A. Waxman’s congressional seat, instead planning a bid for the state Senate.

“I am extremely moved by the outpouring of local and national support I have received since I announced that I was considering running for office. My entire career has been devoted to the public interest, whether representing victims of human trafficking or advocating for working families,” Fluke said late Tuesday night. “I am committed to continuing that fight in Sacramento, working to protect our environment, ensure our access to health care, and create the jobs that are desperately needed. While I strongly considered offering my candidacy for Congress, I feel there is a better way for me to advance the causes that are important to our community.”

Fluke became famous in 2012 after radio host Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” when the then-law student testified in Congress in favor of mandatory insurance coverage of contraception.

After graduating from law school, she moved to Los Angeles, passed the California bar exam, has been active in Democratic circles and has spent time working on issues related to the foster-care system and a living wage. Rumors have long circulated that she would eventually run for office.

Fluke said she plans to run for the state Senate seat currently held by Ted Lieu, who is running for Waxman’s congressional seat.

:rofl2:

I guess the slut was confused about which office she wanted to run for....

Would she cover your district or are you further south?

You're right.

I wonder why she changed her mind on taking Waxmans' seat?

it's pretty standard when a democrat in congress retires for the folks in tiers below him or her to just step up one step. The state senator in Fluke's area is going after Waxman's seat... she'll got after his seat...(I'd be surprised if she doesn't end up having a primary fight with one of the state representative from that area) and then, serve until a senator or congressman retires and the whole shuffle starts all over again. Kinda like pro baseball. Washington is the major leagues (the senate being the American league, of course and the House being the national league) and the state legislatures are the minor leagues. We grow our own and we have a well established "farm system" for doing so.

Thanks for tagging Fluke as "minor league" and admitting that a M A N gets first crack at the plum post, Commander. That clears it up.

If the state senator had been a woman, she'd still get the presumptive nod. gender has nothing to do with it.

mixing metaphors is somewhat deceitful, doncha think?

If her constituents are foolish enough to believe Rush calling you a "slut" is reason to vote for her, then she is exactly the representative they voted for...

Unless you are moving there you really have no say in that election. I personally couldn't care any less.

Maybe, her constituents thought she was an intelligent woman who shares their political ideals, and isn't afraid to articulate her beliefs.

look at the US senators from that state....

or the two from Maine, for years, for that matter.

And that process of moving up the ladder is used in the GOP as well. Oly Snowe took her husband Peter's seat in the Maine House after he died in a car wreck. She moved up to the Maine Senate... then to the US House...and then, when George Mitchell announced his retirement, she went after, and won, his seat beating the other Maine congressman, Tom Andrews, who also had decided to try to step up one rung.

This can't be news to you, can it?

Yep. When the liberals juggled the congressional districts around, I end up with Waxman, the short old bald liberal Jew.

This was Rep. Waxman's area -

Damn, basically the richest people in the state voted for Waxman.

My best friend lives on the LA/West Hollywood border and about two blocks from the Beverly Hills border so I guess he would not be in Fluke's district.

So, in a question addressed to everyone except the Commander, will Democrats in the contested district flock to Fluke without knowing anything about her except

1] She has a vagina
2] Rush Limbaugh called her a slut?

Item 2 is unquestioned. Item 1 has not been proven.

Make that "prospective" constituents...

She could always feel there is a better way for her to advance the causes that are important to her community...again. :rofl2:
