Universal healthcare would provide all with care and cost half the price that we pay now. So you would not pay for it but get money back for it. Our present system is designed to loot the people. In that respect, it is efficient. Tax payers would pay less and not have the constant worry of what a catastrophic illness or accident coiuld do to their lives.

That is why universal care would be cheaper. We would not need the VA, Medicare or Medicaid. . All that would go into universal health care. All that money that companies pay for health care would disappear too. People on medicare have paid all their lives for care. It is not free. We could eliminate health care "providers"too. Their business model is to deny the healthcare you paid for until you give up. That increases profits while making sick people and their families suiffer.
Our system is the most expensive in the world by far. It is very lowly rated around the world.

People on Medicaid haven't paid a dime for what they get because some don't work and those that do make a low wage. How is that going to change? Better yet, why would those paying a lower amount get the same level of care as those of us paying a much higher amount?
