I was at a professional conference a while back. One of the big vendors sponsored a Casino night. I ate a lot of fine roast beast and drank some EXCELLENT red wine, but I gave away the chips the sponsor gave me.

Is anyone else like me in this regard? I simply do not enjoy gaming or gambling. I could see a certain attraction in gaming (Poker, BlackjacK) where your skill can influence the outcome, but what is it about gambling, where the outcome is determined by a random event, that attracts people?

I just plain don't get it.

Like you, I'm not much of a gambler. Though Las Vegas is one of my favorite getaway destinations, I generally enjoy watching the freak-show rather than losing my money. That's not to say that I won't drop a few coins into a slot machine, I just don't drop more than $10 or $20 a night. I'd much rather spend my money dining and drinking, taking in a show and drinking, and drinking.

Me, but then you put me on IA so no matter.

I buy maybe 2 powerball tickets per month.
Otherwise the closest I get to gambling is plaing the stock market, but I have pretty much moved out of that for a while as well.

Ohh on another thread earlier.
Seemed like you put LadyT and myself on IA.
Glad I got a reprieve.

No! The post just happened to follow yours....

First two on the thread: SR and Brent. Wastes of skin and air.

Yepper on that. Wonder what everh happened to Brent ? Last I heard he was going to some Christian island off of the coast of BC or something.

He was a waste, but not evil and there may be hope for the boy.

haha!

I thought you put us on IA too. I just assumed it was your time of the month or something because we didn't even say anything all that offensive.

Gambling is not random chance if you play cards and play them well. People who waste money on slot machines are pathetic, though.

What?!

Are you kidding? That's a great way to get a drink for $3. Play the penny slots until the watress comes around. $1 to the slots, $2 to the waitress. Everybody wins.

That's my strategy when I go to AC.

Absolutely Toxic, you can control the cards you are dealt if you don't get shot doing it.

Now playing the people and the odds are another matter but cards are a game of chance.

Those are penny slots, and you are obviously smarter than the average slot gambler.

Out of curiosity, what is IA?

its fun at times. i dont usualy blow more then like $500 a pop tho.. its just expensive entertainment and every so often you get it for free when you win.

Yes, in games you can influence the outcome (e.g., poker and blackjack). It's about calculating odds and tactics.

In gambling, it's random chance (e.g., roulette and craps). These are the pathetic slot players.

I've never done either (in a casino), just the occasional nickel / dime poker and beer night, which is really just an excuse for beer. But the idea of going to a casino for the specific idea of gaming and gambling, I don't get.

"Ignore Author." An inside joke and a relic from an another board from long ago wherein "Sarge" would deem someone unworthy and proclaim IA..........ACTIVATED! before putting the dimwit on "Ignore."

This board has a similar function.

I would argue that craps can be played well by choosing the most probable roll to bet on, etc.

Roulette...I just don't get it, it is as brainless as slots.

Gambling is pretty boring stuff to me too.

I can do a little bit but am too much of a tightwad to have fun. Now if the money was given to me and I HAD to use it on the machines it would be a little funner than using my own dough though. Im a good person to live in Vegas. Its not a temptation for me. Lots of people who live here spend alot of tehir spare cash that way. I used to rent a room at the swanky hotels to use the sweet pools for a couple of days and take a few kids with me. You could rent a room Check in go down to the pool for the day with the kids. Go eat a nice dinner with the kids then go to the room for a slumber party for the kids and then hit the pool again before you checked out. I could sip beers or whatever as much as I wanted and not worry about having to drive the kids anywhere. Some of the big ones have pools that compare to water parks. The mandalay bay has a floating river, slides, waterfalls and huge beautiful beach entry pools that feel like you are on a tropical island.

Now that is a hell fo alot better than spending your day sitting next to drunk tourists in a casino floor.
