George H.W. Bush was the exact political opposite of Donald Trump

His steel spine sets him apart from the Bush family.

W let the media and left shit and piss all over him and never said a word, then came back for more. What a gutless pussy. Never realized how much so until Trump.

Trump isn't strong.. He's very weak and insecure. That's why he's always having tantrums.

Funny how so many are shedding crocodile tears over Bush the Elder now. They never used to be like that towards him!!

The Ignored Legacy of George H.W. Bush: War Crimes, Racism, and Obstruction of Justice

https://theintercept.com/2018/12/01...war-crimes-racism-and-obstruction-of-justice/

He (Bush) helped end the Cold War without, as Obama said, “firing a shot.” He spent his life serving his country — from the military to Congress to the United Nations to the CIA to the White House. And, by all accounts, he was also a beloved grandfather and great-grandfather to his 17 grandkids and eight great-grandkids.

The reason They lied to Fahd about Iraqi troops massed on the border of KSA is because they needed to stage the war from there. What they did wrong was stay 13 years when they had promised to leave as soon a the Gulf war was over.

Saddam did invade Kuwait... although I think Kuwait provoked the attack.

Fascinating how April Glaspie has more or less disappeared in the intervening years. You'd think that she would want to set the record straight.

I know.. I think Saddam took her response as permission to invade Kuwait. To his credit Saddam had complained to the US and the UN about Kuwait's stealing Iraqi oil long before he invaded Kuwait. He was NOT a threat to KSA because KSA had forgiven his OPEC quota debt..

BTW, Qatar is pulling out of OPEC.

Nayirah al-Sabah for starters.

I had forgotten her name..........

Nayirah stated that after the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait she had witnessed Iraqi soldiers take babies out of incubators in a Kuwaiti hospital, take the incubators, and leave the babies to die.

(CNN)George H.W. Bush would never have been elected to anything in the modern Republican Party.

It's not because the former president, who died at age 94 on Friday, wasn't a "real" Republican. Bush believed in lower taxes, a smaller federal government and a robust military -- the general principles that, until the last few years, have defined modern conservatism.

It's because of Bush's approach to politics. He was not a fire-breather. His first instinct was not to vilify anyone who disagreed with him. He believed in the idea that good people can disagree. He saw compromise as a reasonable goal of government.

In the modern parlance of Republican politics, Bush's gentility would be read as insufficient commitment to the conservative cause. He would be labeled a "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) for his dalliances with Democrats on policy.

I certainly wouldn't call them opposites. Both men were members of the old-money East Coast aristocracy. Each followed his father's footsteps, professionally, and were, in turn, followed by their kids. Each campaigned with race-baiting strategies. Each had the audacity to sell policies aimed squarely at enriching the economic elite, with faux-populist trimmings. They also both surrounded themselves with crooks. But they certainly were at extreme ends of the modern GOP, with Bush's patrician manner, family-man morality, and pragmatic approach to issues like foreign policy, deficits, and the environment being so different from Trump's brainless carnival barker approach. And with Bush, love him or hate him, you always had the feeling that a mentally stable grown-up, of at least ordinary intelligence, was running the show. With Trump, we have a deranged, low-IQ child throwing himself from one tantrum to the next.

History will look kindly on Bush I. It already does it seems with all the adulation I see even in MSM.
I always thought it was a huge mistake that he didn't get re-elected but the odds of one party holding the presidency for 16 straight yrs. are just too great.
Clinton ushered in the low life tabloid presidency. I could tell he was a scalawag from the start with his wench of a wife reinforcing and enabling in that 60 minutes interview with Steve Kroft. Man he had them pegged when he suggested they had an "arrangement" for a marriage.
Glad the #Metoo movement came along while he's still alive.
