George H.W. Bush was the exact political opposite of Donald Trump

History will look kindly on Bush I. It already does it seems with all the adulation I see even in MSM.
I always thought it was a huge mistake that he didn't get re-elected but the odds of one party holding the presidency for 16 straight yrs. are just too great.
Clinton ushered in the low life tabloid presidency. I could tell he was a scalawag from the start with his wench of a wife reinforcing and enabling in that 60 minutes interview with Steve Kroft. Man he had them pegged when he suggested they had an "arrangement" for a marriage.
Glad the #Metoo movement came along while he's still alive.

Bush was a globalist shitbird and I hope he burns in Hell.

I certainly wouldn't call them opposites. Both men were members of the old-money East Coast aristocracy. Each followed his father's footsteps, professionally, and were, in turn, followed by their kids. Each campaigned with race-baiting strategies. Each had the audacity to sell policies aimed squarely at enriching the economic elite, with faux-populist trimmings. They also both surrounded themselves with crooks. But they certainly were at extreme ends of the modern GOP, with Bush's patrician manner, family-man morality, and pragmatic approach to issues like foreign policy, deficits, and the environment being so different from Trump's brainless carnival barker approach. And with Bush, love him or hate him, you always had the feeling that a mentally stable grown-up, of at least ordinary intelligence, was running the show. With Trump, we have a deranged, low-IQ child throwing himself from one tantrum to the next.

Trump isn't East Coast old money.

He's strictly Nouveau riche .........

Bullshit......Bush was as deep state as it gets. Truth be known he very well could have been behind JFKs hit. Just like the death of "he who can't be named" (another deep state criminal) who died on Aug 25......the nation will be better off. The era of POLITICAL CORRECTNESS and cover ups by the deep state is over, its time THE PEOPLE resumed their rightful ownership of this republic. The difference between the Clintons and the Bush's? Just the flip side of the same coin.

Batshit crazy

Deep state is Trump's excuse and his fantasy.

I don't suppose it ever occurred to you that the Deep State might just be very good at concealing itself and covering its tracks?

I have been well aware of the impotence of men who glom on to every crackpot conspiracy that comes along. Trump is a prime example.

(CNN)George H.W. Bush would never have been elected to anything in the modern Republican Party.

It's not because the former president, who died at age 94 on Friday, wasn't a "real" Republican. Bush believed in lower taxes, a smaller federal government and a robust military -- the general principles that, until the last few years, have defined modern conservatism.

It's because of Bush's approach to politics. He was not a fire-breather. His first instinct was not to vilify anyone who disagreed with him. He believed in the idea that good people can disagree. He saw compromise as a reasonable goal of government.

In the modern parlance of Republican politics, Bush's gentility would be read as insufficient commitment to the conservative cause. He would be labeled a "RINO" (Republican In Name Only) for his dalliances with Democrats on policy.

And all these years I thought HW was a blue blood racist WASP lol.

Who knew? Have they buried McCain yet?

Let's give you a concrete example, there is an off the books black budget for secret military spending. How is that done, with all the supposed checks and balances? So glom over that, if you dare!

That's not what the article says. The money isn't off the books, the details regarding how the money is spent is classified but we know how much money is budgeted and it's for intelligence not the military.

Trump isn't East Coast old money.

He's strictly Nouveau riche .........

He's old money in the sense that he's the recipient of multi-generational wealth. Frederick Trump Sr. got rich running brothels during the Klondike gold rush, back in the 1890s. He then moved into New York real estate investing in the early 1900s. Upon his death, a hundred years ago, his widow and son, Frederick Trump Jr., inherited that New York real estate business. Fred Jr. grew that to become a leading slum-lord in mid-20th-century New York. Donald Trump was born into that family -- the third generation of great wealth. I suppose it's a pointless semantic exercise to debate what makes someone "nouveau riche" versus "old money," but given the fact that over a hundred years ago Donald Trump's ancestors were getting rich in the same business in the same area, I see him as old money. The founder of his family's fortune had been dead for over a quarter century before Donald was even born.
