Götterdämmerung -- The Twilight of the Gods

You did a fine job of setting cypress straight. In his first response to your thread, he was perpetuating the notion that Trump called the virus itself a hoax, which you set straight with that snopes thing.

I strive for accuracy. This is why I can tell you that we would not be in the hideous condition we are now if it were not for #COVID45's total mishandling of the national response to the pandemic within our borders. I could not care less if he called it a hoax or not. The *only* thing that matters is that he fucked it up, and now 160,000 of our neighbors, friends, family, coworkers, citizens are DEAD.

We can and will correct this mistake in November.

This virus itself is not a democratic hoax, but it very often has the same symptoms as the common cold.

Stomach cancer often has the same symptoms of a heartburn attack, yet it is far worse. So is nCOVID-19.

Your minimizing the pandemic does not score any points, or even make any sense. The ONLY reason you wish to minimize it is political. You are delusional, believing if you can convince everyone else that it's no worse than the cold or influenza, somehow your orange shitgibbon will be re-elected. You can't, and he won't.

So you want to go back to the 1950's. Understood. Leave it to Beaver , Father Knows Best, and Ozzie and Harriet were great times. MAGA.

From the OP article:

"For many years, those on the conservative right in the United States have invoked a nostalgia for the 1950s, and an America that never was, but has to be presumed to have existed to rationalize their sense of loss and abandonment, their fear of change, their bitter resentments and lingering contempt for the social movements of the 1960s, a time of new aspirations for women, gays, and people of color. In truth, at least in economic terms, the country of the 1950s resembled Denmark as much as the America of today. Marginal tax rates for the wealthy were 90 percent. The salaries of CEOs were, on average, just 20 times that of their mid-management employees."

We should go back to that tax set-up, and that compensation regime.

You still have not explained how stating that COVID19 is a deadly serious risk requiring a decisive national response is a deliberate and malicious deception.

It is like you and Trump simply do not know what the definition of the word hoax is.

You posted:

"What we had instead was a president and large parts of one of our major political parties calling it a Democratic hoax, that it was no different than the common cold."

This is not the same thing as:

stating that COVID19 is a deadly serious risk requiring a decisive national response is a deliberate and malicious deception

It is dishonest to perpetuate the notion that Trump called the virus itself a hoax.

I'd like to see an honest answer to that one too but do not expect anything other than evasion, diversion and lies.

I find that most Deplorables simply memorize what they saw on Fox or Trump's tweets, and are generally not capable of independent thought

In a dark season of pestilence, COVID has reduced to tatters the illusion of American exceptionalism. At the height of the crisis, with more than 2,000 dying each day, Americans found themselves members of a failed state, ruled by a dysfunctional and incompetent government largely responsible for death rates that added a tragic coda to America’s claim to supremacy in the world.

For the first time, the international community felt compelled to send disaster relief to Washington. For more than two centuries, reported the Irish Times, “the United States has stirred a very wide range of feelings in the rest of the world: love and hatred, fear and hope, envy and contempt, awe and anger. But there is one emotion that has never been directed towards the U.S. until now: pity.” As American doctors and nurses eagerly awaited emergency airlifts of basic supplies from China, the hinge of history opened to the Asian century.

Here's a sobering fact:

"Since the 1970s, China has not once gone to war; the U.S. has not spent a day at peace." (OP link)

"President Jimmy Carter recently noted that in its 242-year history, America has enjoyed only 16 years of peace, making it, as he wrote, “the most warlike nation in the history of the world.” Since 2001, the U.S. has spent over $6 trillion on military operations and war, money that might have been invested in the infrastructure of home. China, meanwhile, built its nation, pouring more cement every three years than America did in the entire 20th century."

Way to go, USA:

"As America policed the world, the violence came home. On D-Day, June 6th, 1944, the Allied death toll was 4,414; in 2019, domestic gun violence had killed that many American men and women by the end of April. By June of that year, guns in the hands of ordinary Americans had caused more casualties than the Allies suffered in Normandy in the first month of a campaign that consumed the military strength of five nations."

Now you are just pulling it out of your ass and mailing it in

Democrats and the world health community raised the alarm that COVID was an extraordinarily serious risk requiring a decisive national response.

That was actually the truth.

It was not a deliberate and malicious deception, aka hoax.

If you simply accept at face value everything Donald Trumpf orders you to believe, you are going to consistently be trapped by pretzel logic, and incorrect use of the English language

The fictitious 'great America' that DT fans long for is something that never really existed, and thus cannot be recreated.

Your perception of how Trump has handled the national response is based upon and engineered by the MSM, and it is only your personal opinion. Your covid45 rhetoric demonstrates a comment based on subjective agenda.

I could not care less if he called it a hoax or not.

I don't care either, but I like to call lefties out when they dishonestly perpetuate the notion that Trump called the virus itself a hoax. You won't call cypress out on this because he is a fellow lefty.

The *only* thing that matters is that he fucked it up, and now 160,000 of our neighbors, friends, family, coworkers, citizens are DEAD.

Your opinion about if he fucked up or not.

Anytime you quote covid stats, you are quoting misinformation. The stats have been tampered with, so they are worthless.

Yeah...for the first time...PITY!

Thanks to the colossally incompetent Trump and his supporters.

What a disgusting fall we have taken.

OP link:

"The nation that defeated smallpox and polio, and led the world for generations in medical innovation and discovery, was reduced to a laughing stock as a buffoon of a president advocated the use of household disinfectants as a treatment for a disease that intellectually he could not begin to understand."

Spot on.

Layin it bare:

"The percentage of American victims of the disease who died was six times the global average. Achieving the world’s highest rate of morbidity and mortality provoked not shame, but only further lies, scapegoating, and boasts of miracle cures as dubious as the claims of a carnival barker, a grifter on the make." -OP link

This is another symptom of the Cult of Individualism. The vast majority of citizens in other nations pay taxes to ensure police protection. So do we. But we were indoctrinated in the "every man for himself" creed, so along with paying taxes for police departments, we arm ourselves too. The proliferation of weaponry in the hands of citizens means more civilian bloodshed, something other civilized nations do not suffer.

For one thing, our RW friends -- no matter what their personal economic situation is like -- would NEVER stand for a 90% marginal tax rate on the uber-wealthy. Isn't it strange how back then, it didn't "kill job creation" but now it would?

Keep telling yourself that. It gives you comfort to believe that everyone else is as easily-duped and brainwashed as you are. We are not, of course.

I don't care either, but I like to call lefties out when they dishonestly perpetuate the notion that Trump called the virus itself a hoax. You won't call cypress out on this because he is a fellow lefty.

I posted a screenshot from Snopes that backed you up. You won a tiny, tiny victory, almost as large as your Toadstool's... hands. Go with that. The rest of us have moved on.

Sure thing there, Sparky. It's all fake news. I'm sure that you and your Sekrit Cabal of Covidiots have the real numbers, right?

I am glad that you have now stopped perpetuating the notion that Trump called the virus itself a hoax like you did earlier in this thread. It was dishonest. Now, you are trying to cover up your earlier dishonesty by trying to erase what you did. Trump did not call the virus itself a hoax.

Ouch, because the truth hurts:

"Odious as he may be, Trump is less the cause of America’s decline than a product of its descent. As they stare into the mirror and perceive only the myth of their exceptionalism, Americans remain almost bizarrely incapable of seeing what has actually become of their country. The republic that defined the free flow of information as the life blood of democracy, today ranks 45th among nations when it comes to press freedom. In a land that once welcomed the huddled masses of the world, more people today favor building a wall along the southern border than supporting health care and protection for the undocumented mothers and children arriving in desperation at its doors. In a complete abandonment of the collective good, U.S. laws define freedom as an individual’s inalienable right to own a personal arsenal of weaponry, a natural entitlement that trumps even the safety of children; in the past decade alone 346 American students and teachers have been shot on school grounds." -OP link

I'll move on once cypress quits trying to cover for the dishonest misinformation that he slipped into his first post on this thread. I never let up on liars until they slink off back into the darkness or admit their lie. Why don't you condemn cypress for his role in this? Because he is a lefty?

Right on:

"Those who flock to beaches, bars, and political rallies, putting their fellow citizens at risk, are not exercising freedom; they are displaying, as one commentator has noted, the weakness of a people who lack both the stoicism to endure the pandemic and the fortitude to defeat it." -OP link

Nailed it!
