No one is talking about the US government "bailing out" Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is uniquely singled out in not being afforded the right to declare bankruptcy under the law. This was added in by Strom Thurmond in the 80's and no one has any clue or record as to the purpose of it being inserted into the law. People want to amend the law to remove the clause that singles out Puerto Rico and make it equivalent in legal rights to any other state or municipality in the US. Framing this as a "bailout" is a tactic that a dark money group (presumably funded by vulture hedge funds who stand to make a profit out of bringing Puerto Rico to its knees) uses disingenuously.
I agree with Gary Johnson 92% of the time. I understand that, I am libertarian.
