Its not a defect, its a difference. I would argue that many things we call defects are not. I have dyslexia, in many ways it made me a better person and helped me to learn to work hard, not care what others think and understand overcoming things people discriminate against that don't really matter in the end. Its not a defect, its a different way of thinking than the norm.

There is nothing wrong with unusualness or abnormalities. In fact they are often the very thing that makes someone wildly successful and move society toward great progress. Abnormalities are very often something to be very proud of.

I will say that I encourage any homosexual to seek out a fulfilling sex life.
I would encourage an addict to seek help to change things that are preventing him from living a healthy life.

What I believe in is- Freedom and equality for ALL!

Everyone should be treated as an equal in our society under our Constitution!
