San Francisco is admittedly one of the most expensive places that I've been in the world. Very pretty town, though.

Lefty O'Doul's wasn't at all expensive. Maybe that's why my favorite Frisco hangout had to shut down after all these years.

Didn't hit the Tenderloin then did you?

But I agree, it is one of the few iconic cities in America, personally, I like the Buena Vista Café, although a tourist stop, it still has its own uniqueness, although it did not invent Irish coffee

San Francisco has strict rent control too. Rent control and lack of new development = lack of affordability.

Palo Alto is a suburb dominated by single family homes. It's not really comparable to condos/co-ops in major cities.

Well then maybe the realtor is trying to pull a fast one, but I have seen less for a million or more advertised in New York

Ultimately the market decides. No realtor can force someone to buy a house against their will. As I stated, not a lot surprises me with pricing. Seeing a 1,600 sq.ft. home sell for $4.1m did.

To each his own of course but my parents are 74 and they know how to use Uber. Cabs are a relic.

I hate my cell phone. Waving at an empty cab is much easier for me. If I live much longer, though, I may not have that choice. I'll admit that.

You know in most of NYC Uber is more expensive than cabs

I'm not familiar with NYC but in San Francisco they are a relic. Uber was an absolutely amazing invention. Fvck cabs. Spent way too many hours of my youth waiting for them to never show up after placing an order.

Wow. Damn. That's why I laughed last week when the RWers were rushing to the swooning couch over the BLM lady's purchase of a LA house (which they called a "mansion"-- but it's smaller than this one) for $1.4 million on a quarter acre lot. California real estate stuff costs. A LOT.

I personally found that a self professed Marxist was using capitalist rhetoric to justify her purchase of the home to be the most entertaining part. But from strictly a real estate perspective, $1.4m does not buy you all that much in most of Los Angeles so anyone saying it was a mansion or compound was speaking out of their *ss.

I'll bet that they're affordable, Owl.

I'm amused by your apparent affection for the boonies, but I know my limitations.
If I'm more than walking distance from a subway station, I'm way too far out of circulation.
I'll pay for cabs at night, but the tube is fine during daylight hours.
The Grand Cherokee is for leaving town or grocery shopping, and the vintage Corvette is for summer laughs with other geriatric juvenile delinquents.

I'm amused that you don't find being in places like that soul-crushing. Here I can step outside on a clear night to photograph planets, stars, the aurora. The only human sound is my own breathing. It's not for everyone, nor is living in a busy city for everyone. Viva la difference!

San Francisco rent costs more than NYC (at least did pre pandemic). And Palo Alto isn't San Francisco.

The only thing that rocked about that house was that absolutely stunning redwood tree in the backyard. That was worth $4M. Or are they as common there as oaks are in the Midwest?

Actually just North of Palo Alto is a City called Redwood City and it derived that name from the vast number of redwood trees in the area.

Or the opposite. The Bay Area has some crazy housing prices but it's still hard to digest this comp. (Palo Alto has great weather, surrounded by Stanford and world class VC & tech companies and has excellent public schools which is why people pay so much to live there. But I can't fathom this.)

1650 sq ft. for 4 million dollars! Pwahahahahaha!

I suppose leftists like to live small.

I also think that the Biden Admin will try to get some kind of FHA programs started up again. They may have to or people are going to be living along the highway in pup tents! LOL!

There's no reason in the world for that to be happening. At All. Your derpness.

That's just a house in the hood.

Where was it my cousin moved to? Oh yeah! San Diego.

They had this house that like took up all the lot..I'd guess the lot was 75X 150 with less parking in front and more in the back..it was 2-story block.
Quite the minimum of vegetation on the property.

It sold for a LOT of money..only like 1250 ft sq? How the fuck?
Also..not sure if block or reinforced concrete. Tbh, the walls weren't that thick.
I'm thinking the whole thing was reinforced concrete.

Could mow with a weedeater. Space for 6 cars was the draw. 2 in front and 4 in back via the alley. :dunno:

It sure ain't like where he was born. It's where his Korean wife took him. Where he was born is some of the best land in FL.

Some acres with a creek running through is all I need..(and a good well) That could be found there, yessir!

I have to have good water.

That cousin's brother had sulfur water down in..grr! Where was that? The one with the Indian wife with an 8 foot gator she kept like a dog.

They had some acres, and and a trailer on it with a Sears fence about the size of a city lot. And inside that fence, was an 8-foot alligator his Indian wife treated like a dog.
And they had Sulfur water, which really sucks. It smells like farts. Having good water is key.
I have good water.

I wanna say Leesburg. But that might be where he bought a piece of land we developed. Dang, where was that? It was 2-3 hours from here for sure.
Maybe 4.

Probably not worth $20+ dollars to find out.

Maybe it starts with an A and is in FL between Tampa and Key West.

It's how I grew up, Owl.

I don't get bored in the city. I die of boredom every place else.

My biggest gripe is the replacement of neon with LEDs. I loved neon.
